I just now found out about Rob's suspension reading your post. It's ironic, because just an hour ago I came within a hair's breadth of suspending him for his conduct in the Converting raw energy into biological energy thread, see Message 307. It's seems our little Robbie has been a very busy boy.
Rob, if you're reading this, your frequent misconduct is getting really old. Your views are not a concern. You are free to espouse whatever views you like here. But could you please begin conducting yourself like an adult?

I really think extending Rob's suspension is unwarranted. He is just doing the best he can.
While I agree it is reasonable to point out when they are off topic or posting irrelevancies or nonsense like the POTM post or misrepresenting just to have it on record for others reading the threads, I don't think it is reasonable to sanction them for doing so. They are incapable of behaving otherwise. The value of folk like Rob lies in creating an opportunity for others to present messages that support positions. Remember it is not Rob folk are actually replying to but rather the far larger audience that reads the board yet seldom or never post. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

You didn't mention the misconduct that resulted in the extension of Rob's suspension. The extension was not for posting off-topic but for disregarding a moderator request to stop posting in the Converting raw energy into biological energy thread (for which I took no action other than to post an admonishment), then after being suspended by a different moderator for misconduct elsewhere he requested another member to post yet another message for him. Those hearing of this for the first time I refer to Message 311.
I, too, wish Rob could comport himself in a manner which allowed him more time here during a period when creationist participation is down, but he reacts to leniency not with a sigh of relief that he wasn't suspended, but with escalation. To do nothing would be as if to have no rules.

You didn't mention the misconduct that resulted in the extension of Rob's suspension. I didn't mention it because it is simply a continuation of the same behavior. I simply don't think it is possible for him to follow the rules and I think it is unreasonable to expect any different behavior. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Well, I don't know whether this counts as a mitigating factor or not, but I will point out that Rob generally did much better in that thread than usual. There is only one post that I recall (it was directed to me) where he lapsed into irrelevant God-talk; for the most part he stayed somewhat on topic, and I actually found his posts readable and understandable (my disagreements with the contents notwithstanding).

Just a note I added a reference to a image taken from a paper in the polystrate thread. The paper had been referenced in two prior posts. Also note that I had wrapped the image within html which provided full attribution. Usage is covered under fair use.

The paper had been referenced in two prior posts. I suspected such, but didn't feel like going searching for it. Regardless, I think it is also good and proper that it be credited/referenced in your message. Thank you,Adminnemooseus

I simply don't think it is possible for him to follow the rules and I think it is unreasonable to expect any different behavior. Really, jar? Out of curiosity, I googled Rob's info. Turns out he posts his gibberish all over the place. (His "Jesus was an alien" bit was posted verbatim over at Yeshuas Kingdom.) Mostly, tho, he pounces on unsuspecting threads and testifies to the heathens. Here's something he posted March 22 of this year:
Rob writes: I’ve been burned quite a bit at EVC. Over a thousand posts that were basically a complete waste of time . If Rob wants to stand on a soapbox and harangue the infidels, he can go somewhere else and harangue to his heart's content. If Rob wants to participate in a reasoned debate, he can play by EvC's rules.

I agree that Rob did an excellent job in the Converting raw energy into biological energy thread, until summation time.
To everyone who would like Rob back sooner rather than later, you're behaving like cats who having brought a chipmunk into the house are annoyed at their owner for taking it away. I know it's more fun when there are high-participation level creationists like Rob around, so if you want him here more often then lend him a helping hand. Post reminders to him when you see him engaging in misconduct, and don't play "let's chat and eat up all the message bandwidth" with him in threads. Keeping Rob here isn't the moderators' responsibility, objectively and fairly enforcing the Forum Guidelines is. If members would prefer that Rob not be suspended so often then they should accept some responsibility by helping him notice when his conduct is out of bounds and by ceasing to be enablers of his misconduct.

I'm almost 44 years old -- old enough to just roll my eyes and move on without making a big deal about stupid stuff. Added by edit: I will say, though, that if you are reading this, Rob, I hope you don't think I'm speaking on your behalf in this instance because I want "the hamster" back. Rob, we need and want you on the EvC creationist team. I have a few scripture verses which may help you regarding these suspensions you get. Romans 12:18: "If it be possible, inasmuch as lies within you, live at peace with all men."
Ecclesiastes 3:1-7 "For everthing there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven:...... 7.......a time to keep silence and a time to speak....." I'm not making any claim to have mastered this myself but inasmuch as I have applied it, it helps keep me out of trouble. There are times when topic allows us to apply aspects of the gospel, salvation and other matters of our faith but when we break the established rules of boards we wish to participate in by being preachy and get careless with things we say, we do more damage than good for Christianity. Again, I'm not squeaky clean on this but I don't get suspensions by working at being mindful of the rules. Composing messages often takes a lot of time and thought for me, being aware that most will not agree nor regard things we believe as valid. The minority viewpoints are always more difficult to advance on a board whose majority members espouse a majority ideology. Thus it becomes all the more needful for us to proceed with care in a manner that will not compromise what we believe to be true. Perhaps there have been times when I have been remiss in my admin role regarding your input and the problems you've had. I'll try to be more watchful of what is going on with you in case I may admonish or intervene on your behalf. Since you are far more advance in matters of science than I, my ability to evaluate your performance may be limited. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. The immeasurable present is forever consuming the eternal future and extending the infinite past. |

Message 121 As I mentioned in my previous post as Percy, I find this thread's topic area to be far too broad for a single thread. I invite RAZD and MurkyWaters to propose new topics over at Proposed New Topics where discussion can resume, but each proposal should cover only a single topic. I have no problem with that. Murk has not dealt with any of the issues other than having a protracted discussion on the definition of the theory of evolution, where he insists on his definition in spite of evidence that it is incorrect. His definition of evolution is also wrong, so he needs to start with that (then with what a scientific theory is ...) Perhaps suggest he take this up on the Definition of Evolution, where he can join with Ray in missing the points. But I wouldn't expect any different behavior from him compared to what he has done on the GD thread.
Message 120 I have noticed that RAZD will invite newcomers into private debates just after they've joined. Uh, no, I do not. I don't really like Great Debates. I invite you to find all the numerous instances where I have done so. Instances where using the Great Debate forum has come up that I can recall include one with S1WC regarding his "essay" (and which was taken up by Anglagard), the one for the topic in question, the spin off with S1WC on Age of the Earth (as he only participates in GD threads), a couple of issues with "Simple" (as he complained about being in certain science forums), and ones like the recent request made by Vasgun (Message 7 - and one I will not be taking up as I think the topic is pretty well covered already). I did a search on "great debate" with only my posts and came up empty on any other instances. Also, the discussion you and Murk were having has nothing to do with Murks perception of "RAZ dodges and stonewalls again" so the subtitles should be changed. Murk makes lots of complaints, but never shows the basis for them, and this title is based on one of those.
Message 120 again Since you've been primarily closeted here in this forum ... At his own preference, after being piled on for his posts like Message 81 shortly after starting here. It is a problem with new creationist posters (especially the verbose ones that do a gish gallop type post, like Murk did on Galapagos Finches), Enjoy. compare Fiocruz Genome and fight Muscular Dystrophy with Team EvC! And the evidence just keeps mounting:
The electromagnetic healing theory is mine, and is based on my experience in Quantum Touch. It really works even when someone is asleep so it isn't a magical mind trick. Also, I can change the taste of wine and beer and take the carbonation out of coke. Even my skeptical science friend even admits its power.

I personally don't feel it's fun at all. I've engaged with rob before and actually finally got him to admit that he was way over his head. But it was not fun for me at all. I am one of those that would feel extremely embarrassed for other people stupidity. They can believe whatever they want. But it's when they honest-to-goodness believe obviously flawed logic as genuine logic, I just want to bury my head in the sand because I feel embarrassment for them. I know it's more fun when there are high-participation level creationists like Rob around, so if you want him here more often then lend him a helping hand. The raw energy thread was an example that after reading a few of rob's posts I had to click on the X button and tried to recover from extreme embarrassment. It's not even a difference of opinion. It's just a complete lack of knowledge in the said field. If I ever come off as ignorant and cocky in my ignorance, I'd rather someone bash me in the head to get it over with. Anyway, I think the point of this post is to tell you that I am one that does not actually enjoy talking to someone like rob. Disclaimer: Occasionally, owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have used he/him/his meaning he or she/him or her/his or her in order to avoid awkwardness of style. He, him, and his are not intended as exclusively masculine pronouns. They may refer to either sex or to both sexes!
