i'm not convinced.
but when there's no evidence, it doesn't really matter.

Well, let just say that everytime I talk to people like iano, faith, riverrat, nem_jug, mike the wiz, phat, etc I actually see the conversation as a reminder never to fall into the christian trap again. What you people don't realize everytime you try to tell me how loving and caring your god is and how I should worship him and all of that I can't see pass all the prejudice and ignorance that come hand-in-hand with the faith that you speak of.
mikey's hatred of fags
mikey's hatred of atheists
mikey's supernatural fallacies
mikey's views that only humans are intelligent
So what did I do wrong? Was I supposed to agree with Phelps?

If Mikey would of read the bible(properly) he would not of fallen into religions discriminatory mindset. Now, I'm not criticizing Mikey, he may not of been at the top of the pile where reason and independence are concerned, however, we should be able to discern the quality and validity of a doctrine by it's works and behavior towards others in comparison to say, Jesus(for example)
I think Mikey was mislead and should be given the opportunity see things in there proper context.

i think you should read the posts mikey made.
mtw tends to be pretty obtuse, but i've never experienced him to be anything that would force me away from god. others here, yes. but not him.

If you ever had to choose between atheism or truth, which would you choose?
I'd be delighted to discover the existence of God or gods. What fun!
That discovery wouldn't necessarily translate into worship: Gods have a lot to answer for--but at last we'd have someone to demand answers from...
The discovery of one god would probably lean me toward the existence of others. History records a multitude, and if history were proved correct so far as a single god, then I would think that history might also be correct that there are many.
Bottom line, though: If we want gods, we'll have to become them.

Real things always push back.

mtw tends to be pretty obtuse
Therefore there should be many examples of this. Can you show me some, because that's the first time anyone has called me "obtuse" in my life.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. but you knew that right?

Mike, when I mentioned your name, I had other things in mind. For starter, I keep seeing you trying to use logic to prove god. A while back, I did a search for your old posts and... all I gotta say is good job for such a big improvement. But changing from using bogus arguments to prove creationism to trying to dress up your arguments with logical jargons to prove the big guy in the sky is like trading in your cocaine addiction to oxycontin addiction.
So, when I mentioned your name, I was thinking of the desperation that one has to prove god. You started out using bogus arguments. Now, you've familiarized yourself with basic logic to prove basically the same things that you tried to prove back in your bogus arguments days.
Converting to atheism has made me love everyone. Why? Because we are all on this planet together. I don't need a burning bush to tell me to be kind to others. I don't need a booming voice to tell me I shouldn't murder my fellow men. It really is as simple as common human decency that we should all follow. Why waste our time trying to make the "creator" happy when we can just do good for the sake of goodness?
If there really is a god and if he is as loving and caring as you people make him out to be, surely he'd care less about whether I believe in him or not and more about how I treat others with kindness, honesty, and whatnot? But keep trying to use logic to prove god is like trying to use your loaded gun to scratch your back itch. Sure, it might satisfy your itch, but you could wine up shooting yourself and others around you.

Disclaimer:
Occasionally, owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have used he/him/his meaning he or she/him or her/his or her in order to avoid awkwardness of style.
He, him, and his are not intended as exclusively masculine pronouns. They may refer to either sex or to both sexes!

You have said this before - that I am trying to prove God with logic. Yet I know logic can't do that, and I have never argued it.
But changing from using bogus arguments to prove creationism to trying to dress up your arguments with logical jargons
It's not logical jargons. Every logical point I have made has had educational value. I am not being mean, but it's that you don't understand what I am saying. I couldn't create working riddles with jargon.
Many here will think as you do because they either don't know the full extent of what I am saying, or they just think colloquially.

This makes me laugh. I once had cousin was smoked quite a bit of weed and used similar reasoning at times.
Why bother to be kind to others and dismiss the one who created you and all things you enjoy? What kind of person under normal running circumstances would think this way(selfish perhaps)? Though we all know the world is littered with people serving God for all the wrong reasons(what's in it for me style), we also have a great number of people who are simply grateful for all the things that God has provided for them. I mean, thinking about it all, if God is what He claims He is, then He had absolutely no need to create anything or anyone.
There are people who live life and truly enjoy thanking God for it. Just as you convoluted being kind to others and dismissing the source of it all, some people truly feel that kindness should be extended to God as well.

Well, you did think that God was wanting you to read a certain part of your bible, when all that was really happening was that the binding of the book was creased at that place.
Maybe "obtuse" isn't the right word.

Yeah, but...
So?
It doesn't make it any less irrational.

Well perhaps you should define rational?
Does it make sense to claim kindness to others and neglect the one who made it all happen? I don't know about you but this does not sound like a balanced position on things. If anything, it doesn't seem sound.
ex: I will love my neighbour by being kind and generous to him but as for my parents, I will not extend them any such courtesy. Does this sounds sensible?
