Why do creationists believe the world was created 6k years ago?

I don't understand where this 6000 years ago came from. There is no reference whatsoever in the bible that 'proves' this claim.Edit:My opinion and the truth is that the bible does not specify a numerical chronology of the history of the world. Therefore there is no basis for the argument that the world was created 6k years ago. That information is the most bogus thing I have ever read. Are you actually telling me that humans lived for 100's of years? What scientific evidence is there to support this, IF we consider that a year back then is actually the same 365 days we attribute to it today?The whole OT reeks of mythology ie. methodology used in writing myths.
