Just an off-the-cuff unsupported question.
Might there be a correlation between those who are comfortable with the vision of God as some hyper-judgmental entity constantly extracting harsh judgment and revenge on his creation and the possible similar nature and character of their own real world father?
We know that cultures produce Gods that mirror that same culture but how about on a personal level; do people worship and envision God in a way that may mirror prior and early experiences between child and parent?

I don't know about other people's experiences, but my father is a mirror image of the god he worships. One thing for sure, if I ever explode over nothing (like my father), please shoot me in the head.

Owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have occasionally used the academic jargon generator to produce phrases that even I don't fully understand. The jargons are not meant to offend anyone or to insult anyone's intelligence!

Ah so maybe the question was too Freudian.
Perhaps a person's vision of God reflects the personality profile of the person holding those beliefs - giving a more personal meaning to the idea that in the beginning Man created God in his own image.

Subjective to the eye of the beholder

I guess you'd have to quantify or ask yourself what qualifies as hyper-judgmentalism.
I think we all have an idea in our mind what an overly judgmental parent acts like, but we may not be at a consensus since its subjective.
I'd also want to clarify what a hyper-judgmental god looks like too so we can establish a baseline.
Then we can segue in to your premise.

“This life’s dim windows of the soul, distorts the heavens from pole to pole, and goads you to believe a lie, when you see with and not through the eye.” -William Blake

Admittedly that is not a very precise term.
Here are some examples that I think would meet the qualification of hyper-judgmental:
  • Passing judgment in the form of scorched earth genocide for misbehavior for some members of a race or civilizations
  • Passing judgment on an individual including all subsequent offspring (sins of the father) for the crime of bad judgment.
  • Passing judgment on an individual and sending to eternal torture for not recognizing the judgees invisible existence.
    How's that for a baseline.
