Re: why is this daftness allowed to go on?
Why would the bible reference flowing rivers, Genesis 2:10, if there was no gravity? Seems to fit the idea of normal gravity. Along with plants growing in the gardens, and Adam and Eve not collapsing from bone degeneration during their 900 years.

We are using the Michael Behe definition of science, where astrology and witchcraft meet particle physics and Quantum Electrodynamics.

Re: why is this daftness allowed to go on?
Yes. For water to flow instead of simply balling up due to cohesion, there must be gravity. Look at the classic pop-sci images from the space race where the astronauts would let a drop free and watch it form free floating balls of liquid.
Gravity must have existed for at least as long as our universe. If at any time during the 14+ billion years there had been no gravity, the universe we see would not exist.

Is there a relationship between the angle of debris slopes and gravity?
Yes, but not quite as directly as you might think.
That is, a debris slope has to do with the friction involved which is a function of the materials. Gravity provides a force to overcome the coefficients of friction. With less gravity, less force exists and thus, a debris pile can have a steeper conical angle since there isn't as much force pulling on the items in the pile.
So it isn't so much the gravity that controls it but the friction coefficients. Any force you care to use is sufficient and gravity is only one.

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

Re: Is There a Dope Smoking Forum?
While the nonsense asserted by simple is just that, nonsense, this is an opportunity for us to point out the various evidences for the existence of gravity over the long term. It is a chance to present in one thread many of the factors that show gravity as we know know it has existed for at least the last 14+ billion years.

Re: some evidences for long term gravity
Jar, Rrhain,
Be careful with the example of debris slopes. They sometimes look so regular as to look designed. That way trouble lies.

"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science." - Charles Darwin.
Did you know that most of the time your computer is doing nothing? What if you could make it do something really useful? Like helping scientists understand diseases? Your computer could even be instrumental in finding a cure for HIV/AIDS. Wouldn't that be something? If you agree, then join World Community Grid now and download a simple, free tool that lets you and your computer do your share in helping humanity. After all, you are part of it, so why not take part in it?

Re: A Simple Question
And I pointed out, that that would only apply under today's laws.
Yes indeed, you did point that out, showing that you're not only willing to dismiss gravity for no reason, but all of physics. That's what prompted me to ask why not throw everything out the window and assume you were created five minutes ago. That makes as much sense (none) as the rest of your through-the-looking-glass world view.
Your rejection of physics is also what lead me to the conclusion that you're not looking for evidence that disproves your "theory," but that you're just whistling in the dark for no discernible reason. You've demonstrated that you're so inextricably wed to the queer notion of less gravity in the past that you'll ignore any evidence that anyone presents showing how devoid of value the idea is. So, rather than contribute to your delusion by presenting more evidence for you to ignore, I decided instead to try to learn the depth of your delusion. I grant you that there's really little point in my endeavor, but at least it amuses me.
