I personally find the entire Bible pretty absurd - I couldn't possibly find just one thing above all else
Then again I'm not Christian, so my opinion here doesn't really mean much.

Good point... I suppose what I really meant was that I'm more or less prejudiced against it, so my opinion shouldn't count as much as some one who's being objective. I certainly can't quote from it to back up my opinion, like other people have been doing.
As for it affecting the laws and society of my country, well... this is Ireland. It's not like I'm not used to it at this stage.

No one is sure where the first cell came from. The current theory is abiogenesis - google it for a better explanation.
The fact that we're all still here after so many millions of years suggest to me that its more likely that cells don't degrade when they reproduce.

Next thing will be name-calling... Take it easy ok? It's not like we're Bible-haters here - there's just a lot about it that people find absurd. It's only a book after all, and everyone's entitled to their opinion.
(Tell that to the Lord of the Rings fanatics when I start going on about how it's badly written though...)
Anyway, as a geologist, my favourite Bible absurdity will always be the idea that the Earth is only 6000 years old.
