Re: Back, somewhat, towards the topic
The reason I am acting all racist is because (1) I'm tired of the "n-word" being the most offensive word in the english language while the word "fag" and "chink" are freely used by all without a second thought, (2) I know that I'm not a racist and therefore I have a clear conscience, (3) I'm trying to call out the in-the-closet homophobes, sexists, and racists, and (4) I don't give a rat's ass about political correctness.
On that last point, let me give you an example. I was in chat with a bunch of other white people and 1 black person. I asked if people knew what I was talking about when I referred to accent that black people have. Southern people have souther accent and New York people have New York accent and English people have English accent. Ok, don't even try to deny it, black people tend to talk with a unique accent. Everyone in chat played dumb and pretended like they didn't know what I was talking about. The one black person said yes he knew what I was talking about.
Why the playing dumb? Is it offensive to point out that black people have a unique accent just like people from Australia have a unique accent? Chat wasn't the first time I noticed the playing dumb. When I was in college, one time there were about a dozen of us eating lunch together, a few were black. Somehow the topic came up and all the white kids there bluntly denied that there was any difference between a black person talking from a white person. Is noticing a difference in accent a racist thing or what?

Owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have occasionally used the academic jargon generator to produce phrases that even I don't fully understand. The jargons are not meant to offend anyone or to insult anyone's intelligence!

Ah.
So a Harvard Educated Black man and High School dropout Black man and a Jamaican and a Brazilian and a Bantu and a Black man raised in Harlem and a Black man raised in Mississippi and a Black man raised in Los Angeles and a Black man raised in Kenyan and a Haitian and a Ugandan and a Black man educated at Oxford all share a unique accent?

I've known several people from Australia and while they had a somewhat similar inflection and pronounciation pattern, they actually spoke pretty differently.

The way you are using it, yes, it is.
Sure, there's an "American urban Gansta" accent, but I don't think that's defined by race at all. Watch MTV for 10 minutes and you will see Asians, whites, Hispanics and blacks all using that accent.
The southern black accent is different from that, just as the southern working class accent is very different from the southern upper class accent. Then, go to New Orleans and you will get the Creole accent, the Cajun accent, the Hatian-influenced accent, etc., all spoken by blacks and whites.
If you go to the Bahamas or Jamaica, you will hear a different accent, and you will also hear those in large metropolitan areas of the US.
You are speaking far too much in generalities, although, at the same time, I know what you mean.
I think it is more of a class thing than a race thing.

But that's just it. I've actually never heard a white person or asian or hispanic sound like that.
But you're right, I am being too general. I apologize.

Working in the food and restaurant business for years, I have come across many people from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, and I actually have heard white and hispanic kids speak like that.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not referring to the way they talk. I'm not referring to ebonics or whatever it is they are calling it now. I'm referring to the accent they have. They still speak in complete sentences. It's the way they make the sounds of the words that I am referring to.

Romney's speach
OK, so Barack made the whole "Kingdom on Earth" comment. Was anyone other than myself more disturbed by Mitt Romney's speech yesterday? Wow!

I hope so. The idea that the he thinks you MUST be religious to be President...and the idea that he believes that our founding fathers wanted religion in Government...wow...just wow.
To be honest, I wasn't going to vote for him anyway...but now, I'm actually hoping that no one votes for him. The possibility of him being President is a scary thought to me. Not because he's Mormon...I could not care less...but rather because he apparently wants to put an end to a secular government.

Hat tip to Atrios, my favorite part:
quote:
It's as if they are intent on establishing a new religion in America - the religion of secularism. They are wrong.
Quoth Atrios: "Really it would just be crazy if anyone tried to start a new religion in America... oh, wait."

Of course I never expected him to measure up to Kennedy, but to cave so transparently to the religious right, to declare that he wants to join forces to spread bigotry, prejudice and discrimination. In the name of religious freedom.
And to listen to the bigoted and prejudiced self-righteous religious fanatics hedge around their history of portraying Mormonism as a cult for deviants talking about the values in common ... hilarious.
Yeah, WOW.
Enjoy.

Huckabee goes Romney one better
Oh, RAZD.
That's nothing.
Check this out.
"I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk," Huckabee wrote in the (1992) questionnaire for The Associated Press, which reported the answer on Saturday.
"In light of the extraordinary funds already being given for AIDS research, it does not seem that additional federal spending can be justified," Huckabee wrote, according to the AP.
"An alternative would be to request that multimillionaire celebrities, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and others who are pushing for more AIDS funding be encouraged to give out of their own personal treasuries increased amounts for AIDS research."
"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague.... It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents."
Huckabee called homosexuality 'sinful' - POLITICO
Yup. You read right. Quarantine.
