i believe that our closest living relative based on genetics is the ape is this correct? i also have heard that it may be the pig.

no, pig tastes the most like human.

pigs are also good analogs for humans in various sorts of tests (mythbusters!) because they are roughly the same size and weight, have similar muscles and skin, and are readily available at your local butcher's.
