Nasa's posting priviledges restricted
MESSAGES IN THIS TOPIC BY ADMIN ONLY - ALL OTHERS WILL BE DELETED
This topic is to supplement the Suspensions and Bannings topic. Here we can track members who have had their posting priviledges restricted, but who have not been totally suspended and/or banned.
Any discussion of admin posting restriction actions should be taken to the "Change in Moderation?" topic, link below.
Nasa's posting priviledges have been restricted to the "Suggestions and Questions" forum. See message 51 at the "DarkStar's Collection of Quotations - Number 1" topic, for more information and context.

yxifix confirmed as fully restored
I had intended this topic for priviledge restrictions short of total suspensions. Since yxifix was temporarily restricted to just a couple of forums (including "Suggestions and Questions", I guess this was the right place.
I have confirmed that yxifix's full posting priviledges have been restored (I presume by AdminNosy). I will now delete the 3 alternate ID's s/he created.

This message is a response to Mammuthus, who posted the following at the Introducing the new "Boot Camp" forum:
quote:
I am in the position of agreeing with the Admins and crashfrog at the same time on this issue. The entire forum is sort of a boot camp as crashfrog indicated. On the other hand, just banning people completely is not particularly great in an open forum. It looks bad having JAD alone in the boot camp. But why not re-instate Syamsu, whatever, desdamona et al. and put them in boot camp? Those who wish can interact with them here or ignore them and stay in the other parts of the forum. If any of those restricted up their argument, they get a pass into the general population...I guess it is worth a try.
In the beginning, the suspension process was simple and straight forward. Either you had full posting privileges to all forums, or you had no posting privileges at all.
Since then, Percy has much modified the suspension system, making in much more flexible. But this has also made it more complicated and difficult to track.
The current system has three main controls. 1) Able to start threads?, 2) Able to post?, and 3) Able to edit?.
If all three of these are checked as "no", it is a total suspension of posting privileges (although my guess is, that just #2=no would also be a total suspension). Anyhow, if any of 1-3 are checked as "no", the member permissions database will filter them out as "members with reduced posting privileges" - These restricted members are easy to track.
Percy has also added forum by forum controls for posting privileges. A specific member can be restricted to posting to specific forums. To check on memeber with such restrictions, the specific member permissions must be looked up - It will not be caught by the "members with reduced posting privileges" filter.
Currently only two members are being given "Boot Camp" restrictions. They are John A. Davison and Whatever. They are excluded from posting to the "Main Area" topics, except for the "Boot Camp" and "Proposed New Topics" forums. The have posting privileges for the non-main area forums.
Syamsu currently has no restrictions on his posting privileges.
Desdamona is restricted to posting to the "Free For All", "Suggestions and Questions", "Columnist's Corner", and "Boot Camp" forums.
Kendemyer's permissions are very simular to JAD's and Whatever's. Kendemyer, however, does not have topic starting or editing permissions in any forum.

samyy no longer allowed to start new topics
All other privileges remain, at least for now.
Samyy, "get with the game", or a full suspension is soon coming.

All forum specific restrictions have been lifted

Admin/Percy at the dBoard 2.0 Release Tomorrow topic:
Admin writes:
Anyone who had forum specific restrictions imposed before the release of dBoard 2.0 should be aware that those restrictions have been lifted. The semantic expression of these restrictions differed too greatly between 1.0 and 2.0 to maintain them accurately, and so they were not maintained across releases.
This was not discussed between all moderators, only between Jar and myself because he was available via messenger at the time a decision needed to be made. We agreed that there was no one who deserved permanent forum restrictions, and so deemed it appropriate to drop existing restrictions as part of the 2.0 release.

Partial suspensions are hard to track - Maybe this topic will help.

Randman status
randman - Not permitted to post in most all topics. Can post in "The Great Debate", "Announcements", "Proposed New Topics", "Practice Makes Perfect", and "Suggestions and Questions".
Randman had some password problems, which were fixed by Admin. At that time Randman's posting privileges were fully restored. Apparently that info previously failed to make it to this topic.

Added by edit: I've just discovered where the privilege status change was posted, in a reply to a Randman message. See message 116 of the "Changes at EvC Forum" topic. The Admin message there (1/27/08) said:

Congratulations! You get to test out a new feature.
You are now set up such that you can only post a message every 30 minutes. Now let's see if your message quality level rises. In other words, use your messages wisely.
