Are you old enough to remember when all the good Christian white folks in the south wouldn't let the black folks vote, and that those same good christian white folks were so filled with hate and fear towards black folks that our government had to call in the National Guard to protect black schoolchildren from being lynched?
What about good old Richard Nixon, who gave our country it's first big reason to seriously mistrust our government?
How about a time when it was a popular notion that women and girls who were raped or beaten up by their spouses or boyfriends were "asking for it"? The terms, "Marital Rape" and "Date Rape" didn't even exist yet. Remember back then?
You are looking back with rose-colored glasses, Buz.

Rrhain, Zephyr and Schrafinator, thankfully folks who think like you people are still a shade in the minority.
You are thankful that people who admit that our history is not a Norman Rockwell painting are in the minority?
I wonder if you have ever heard of the adage, "Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them?"
quote:
When the balance tips your way, America, as we know it will be history and you people along with the rest of us Americans can join the multitudes of the planet's majority oppressed, exterminated, imprisoned impoverished and otherwise generally miserable inhabitants of planet earth.
Um, what?
All of the things I mentioned referred to the improvement of people's basic civil and human rights, and the need for us to carefully choose and be constantly vigilant over those we give the power of office to.
Don't get surly and defensive just because you don't like to acknowledge your generation's failings.

Well, Percy, you see, I've "read the back of the book," as the song goes and it looks like the wrath days we read about are beginning to appear on the horizon.
But then afterwords, comes the King and the Kingdom.
Let's see, Christians have been saying, "The end is nigh" for, oh, I don't know...EVER! Every time there is a war you Christians get so gleeful; you get downright drunk with ecstacy if people are killing each other in the Middle East and Israel.
Seems like you are just another Chicken Little crying, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"
Now, are you going to admit that the past 40 or 50 years had just as much ugliness in it as "wholesome and clean" fun?

Fundamentalist Christians like war in the middle east:

?The feeling among evangelicals is that any effort to create peace in the Middle East is ultimately a trick,? Besser said. ?If you pick up any of Hal Lindsay?s books or Pat Robertson?s books, it?s all laid out there in quite a lot of detail by many of these popular evangelical authors. The demands of these prophecies are very much in the minds of many of these evangelicals who are so vocal in their support of Israel right now.?

Islamics destroyed our major financial center on 9/11, crippling our economy and killing our citizens.
Unless I'm mistaken, Bush had already squandered the budget surplus at that point. You cannot possible blame all of our economic woes upon 9/11.
quote:
In response we went after Afganistan and Iraq to send the message loud and clear that a price would be paid for terrorism on this scale. Christians as well as the majority of secularists in America supported the responses.
You do know that Bush was giving monetary aid to the Taliban just before 9/11, don't you? The same Taliban that was arguably the most cruel and oppressive Islamic regimes in the world, and had been for a number of years?
I am glad we went after Ossama bin Laden, but I can't help but notice that we haven't caught him yet.
Perhaps you would also like to explain to me what kind of clear and compelling evidence we have that Saddam Hussein had anything at all to do with 9/11.

So where is your support for this outrageous falsehood. (Where are Percy's admonitions when his ideological friends post these whoppers??)
This is the Free For All, baby.
No moderation at all. Don't expect Percy to tell anybody anything here.
For instance, you are not going to be prompted by the Admin to provide evidence for your claims in this foum. Isn't that why you decided to post here, so you wouldn't have to bother with evidence?
I'm not lying, though.

2. As for the evidence, not the thread for it, but many of the Biblical prophecies are simply irrefutable and have never been sensibly refuted by anyone.
We have been through this before, Buz.
However, since you seem to have been unconvinced even though you were thoroughly trounced before, I'll bite.
Please state, say, three very specific, unambiguous prophecies from the Bible which you think have been fulfilled. Please provide independent, widely-agreed-upon, non-Biblical evidence that they have been fulfilled.
My guess is that you won't be able to get past the "unambiguous" part, but I could be wrong...
