Hi. I'm new.
Well actually I'm 30 years old, but new to the forums.
I'd sampled a debate or two on another topic. But I'd discovered that the analysis of these topics is completely without feeling. Whether it's intuition or emotion, I dont feel, well... I dont feel! I cant possibly understand why that is. Perhaps logic and reasoning, faith based discussion and debate, are simply escapes from true devotion? I'm not sure, but whatever it is that's the topic.
I would only raise one point. And that is, in all of these discussions it seems easy to forget that the reasonings and convictions of people here are not often without some kind of emotional commitment. Creation versus evolution, what people believe and how they believe it: Why is it that when we discuss these topics we tend to avoid these kinds of emotional commitments which are obviously present in the beliefs presented?
Kindof an interesting first thread, but there it is.

I don't think it's that people don't attach emotions to their messages. I think it's that it is hard for emotions to get transmitted through cyberspace. This is why we have smilies. They help us attach emotions to the messages we post.

Because this is a board for debate, and when we're debating, our feelings are neither one way nor another. If I disagree with someone, it doesn't help the argument forward for me to say that I feel very strongly that he's wrong. He feels very strongly that I am wrong, too. What of it?
