Songs of Praise (Subtitled)
Couldn't resist posting this...
For more such nonsense, I heartily recommend http://www.adam-buxton.co.uk and also the Adam and Joe show on BBC 6Music, Saturday mornings.

Re: Absolutely no news
Funny old world. Right after watching your "no news" video, in the wee small hours of this morning, I watched an old episode of the splendid TV show QI and one of the quite interesting facts up for discussion was that on the 18th of April 1930 there really was no news.
The BBC radio service couldn't find anything to report, so they simply announced "Ladies and gentlemen, there is no news this evening, so here is some music."! It seems that nothing much happened that day. There was the "Chittagong Rebellion" in India, but that didn't happen until 10pm, too late for the UK news.
If you've not come across QI before, I recommend giving it a watch. It's a comedy panel game, where the questions are fiendishly difficult, the contestants are awarded points for being quite interesting and penalised for being unoriginal or for uttering popular misconceptions. You can watch them here.

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
Love the previous clip, Dylan Moran is fantastic. Anyone who enjoyed that should track down more of his stand-up or the excellent sitcom Black Books, in which he stars.
Alternatively, anyone who's not previously encountered the sublime Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain really, really ought to check this out. It's a half hour show from Radio 4, hosted by Phil Jupitus.
BBC - (none) - Music Feature - Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
If you've never heard "Anarchy in the UK" played on the ukulele, you haven't lived!

Can the Rest of Us Have Our Planet Back?
The following is a splendidly funny rant against the three Abrahamic religions, delivered by Marcus Brigstocke, of BBC Radio 4's The Now Show. Theists be warned; he's not being especially tactful here. In fact, this little diatribe received quite a few complaints when it went out...
Funny though

Hoverboy! The Only Hero Protecting You From Science!
Just had to post this.
Hoverboy; creationist super-hero.
And if that tickles your fancy, you may also be interested to learn that Superman is a dick. No, really...

Re: Hoverboy! The Only Hero Protecting You From Science!
Curiously this only makes sense if Lois Lane has no say in getting married ... bizarre world.
You think that's bad? This one fails to make sense on any level you can think of.
Superdickery - Be sure to catch Avengers 4: The Unsnappening has 250 of these gems along with some unintentional saucy bits under the banner of Seduction of the Innocent. I spent an awfully long time going through all these, giggling like an idiot.

Have a Scary Solstice!
OK, I've been trying to resist posting these for ages. I thought I would save them for Christmas. The following is written by the HP Lovecraft Historical society and performed by the Dagon Tabernacle Choir. For those who like a little sanity-busting cosmic horror with their Yuletide festivities, I give you The Carol of the Old Ones!
There are loads of these. I just love them. The above is probably the best, but It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Fish-Men and Awake Ye Scary Great Old Ones are pretty damn good as well. They will return!

Robin Ince on Creationism
I went to see Robin Ince last week at the splendid Leicester Comedy Festival and he was on excellent form. I thought I would share this clip, where he deftly sums up the argument of the ID lobby.

Re: Mad People Are Funny
Hi Dr A,
Yep, Mike Adams is pretty insane. "Skeptics believe that there is no such thing as human consciousness." What...?
Orac has an amusing take down here;
Page not found | ScienceBlogs
Mike Adams writes:
Skeptics believe that the human body has no ability to defend itself against invading microorganism and that the only things that can save people from viral infections are vaccines.
Orac writes:
I'd really love to see Adams provide evidence that "skeptics" believe that the body has "no ability to defend itself." The truly hilarious thing about this bit is that Adams is too clueless to realize that the very principle upon which vaccines work depends upon the body's ability to defend itself from invading microorganisms. They don't work (or don't work as well) in patients who are immunosuppressed, whose immune systems don't work, for whatever reason. Truly, the cluelessness of Mike Adams knows no bounds.

Dry, Boring Science
Here's a clip from Robin Ince's atheist Christmas extravaganza Nine Carols for Godless People. It starts with Mark Steel, who's pretty good (and a musical act that I strongly recommend skipping), but the bit that I thought would interest members here is Ince's monologue on the depiction of science as a dry, dull, boring subject. It starts about 7 minutes in.
Boo! Boring science!
The whole thing can be found on Youtube. The next section, featuring Simon Singh doing a humorous take-down of the Bible Code is pretty good as well.

Re: Dry, Boring Science
Hi hooah,
Yeah, I've heard of Mr Wizard, he looks cool. In the UK we have a chap called Johnny Ball who used to do a similar show, Think of a Number. Much loved.
By eerie coincidence, Ball recently featured in one of the Nine Carols shows. He brought up the subject of climate change scepticism and was booed off the stage!
So much for heroes of science education.

Hi Meldinoor,
I didn't find it , so I've no idea which paper it came from. I got it via Ed Brayton's blog, Dispatches From the Culture Wars, which is worth a look and can be found here; dispatches | ScienceBlogs

Hi Paul,
I'm sorry, my dear. I must have missed something.
Would you explain, please?
I dunno, it's mystifying. I was hoping one of you guys would help explain it to me. Here's another one that's been confusing me...
