Re: Comprehending incorrect spelling
Just to make sure you did get my point: I'm completely on your side. I think everyone should use their time writing to practicing writing. Use the right words spelled correctly in the proper order. That you happened to be the one who left the space out of "no one" is unfortunate. It would have better illustrated the possibility of misinterpretation of ambiguous English had pelican committed the error. As it is, it will be interpreted as "nobody is perfect." No one is perfect, but does that somehow excuse the need to try?
More in line with the OT:
I am dyslexic. I do not have the advantage of the first and last letters being in the right place, nor even words being in the right order. Yet, I can read. It wasn't easy and a little practice goes a long way. Let me offer a few (very few) pieces of expertise:
  1. the context is simple. "See Dcik run." hardly gives one a challenge relative to "Panderiestil catdande Senstoven was ubiltantamsky an escatogitil hoppyotrait." (peek) is a bit more difficult.
  2. The scrambled word doesn't form something with similarities to a real word or another word.
  3. There are lots of 1, 2 ,3 and 4 letter words. I is amazing how much "and" "the" and the various "to be's" are clues to context.
  4. Punctuation isn't equally neglected.
  5. You care.
pelican, unless you believe yourself to be endlessly fascinating, pay extra attention to #5.

"what is the big problem?"
pelican writes:
I truly don't think correct spelling is of great concern when it can clearly be understood, maybe with a little patience and effort.
You don't make your reader do the work you should be doing. Unless you think the reader cares more about what you have to say than you do.
According to the OP:
. what is the big problem?
was the whole point.

Re: "what is the big problem?"
What is the big problem when the word is recognizable and in context?
The word is always recognizable and in context to the writer. That is why the writer should not be the judge of such things. And then I guess it isn't that important if all one has to say is "See Dick run." or "Sally has a ball."; though, it is hard to make that endlessly fascinating. But if one has a complex idea to get across one can't be certain how the audience is going to interpret ambiguities.

Nonchalance
I will accept it if it is not deliberate.
What defines "deliberate"? If I know "cat" is spelled with a "c" but I spell it with a "k" is that more annoying to you if I do it because I'm stupid?
How would you distinguish intentional errors from unintentional errors to know whether you should be annoyed or not?
Is nonchalance a disability that you are willing to accommodate?

Re: Nonchalance
When it is deliberate, like yours, I would get pissed off .
This does not sound nonchalant.
Is it intentional if the error prone person does not bother to correct his errors reasoning that the audience can decipher it if need be?
I find that little different from being told to "go screw". Are you nonchalant about telling people to "go screw"?

A Load of Crap
The average poster, including Larni and myself, make typo erroes and occasionally mis-spell words. It doesn't take anything away from the content.
Conceded for “Dick and Jane” conversations. (I'm above common errors myself. All variation from standard English in my posts is entirely intentional. They make me more likable*)
My point is that it does not matter if the words are recognisable and in context. & . It doesn't take anything away from the content.
Then you do not agree that “recognisable” [sic] by the reader is not to be left to the judgment of the writer?

Or is yours to be the universal standard for the reader too.

Some posters sprout a load of crap beautifully spelled e.g the last sentence of your post.
The first is a statement of what “I find”, and the second is interrogatory. How can either be “a load of crap”? (Though it does satisfy the interrogatory.)
That doesn't make sense at all and has no bearing on the discussion.
Your right, I forgot . this discussion is about errors that don't matter.
*Note the failure to conclude this sentence with a period. Chicks dig that.

I'm prig enough to agree that idiom is also problematic. But I'll not get up into your grill, home slice.
