Fox makes fun of itself a lot in programmes like The Simpsons -
Actually, I think it is probably more a case of the writers of the Simpsons have so much power within the network (because they are a major financial contributor) that the suits can't do much about what they say.

I live in England so I don't know much about American television networks (or British networks at that!). Could you call it a reliable news source?
Absolutely NOT.
It is the right-wing wacko news network.
The worst is that idiot Bill O'Reilly. He passes off scoffing and shouting down anyone who disagrees with him as something that is supposed to be journalism.

While I agree with you that Fox and particularly that nitwit O'Reilly provide absolutely crap news coverage I would have to agree with Rhrain that there is absolutely NO good news coverage by major papers or networks in the U.S.
I agree as well.
Fox is just the worst of the crap that passes for news.
I listen to NPR, mostly.

I like NPR as well..though I have not had access to it for a couple of years now. They did a segment on my extinction work years ago and they were one of the few to send a reporter that knew what he was getting into, asked good questions, and did not totally spin our words into something totally different from what we wanted to say.
Yes. They actually spend enough time on things to get a descent understanding...I suppose this means that the average NPR listener has an attention span longer than 30 seconds.

The funny thing is everyone I knew listened to NPR in Michigan but nobody did in NYC...
We have 3 NPR stations here in SE MI!

Anyway, my guess is the number of people listening to Fox news dwarfs the NPR audience by many orders of magnitude...
I'm sure that's true.
Did you see the c-span Book-TV panel where Al Franken got into it with Bill O'Reilly? It was great. Here's an interview with Franken which talks about it:

and so much for my reading the Economist...I just read that they were part of a project with the Pentagon to make a terrorism/assasination futures market where you would invest money say to bet that someone would kill Yasser Arafat and if you won you would get the money from the investors that bet it would not happen. It would have included bets on potential missle attacks by North Korea etc..and another group involved is headed by John Poindexter..one fo the lovely Iran-Contra criminals....what a great world we live in.
That is some sick, sick shit.

My husband (AKA Zhimbo) is in the last year or so of getting his Doctorate in Cognitive Psychology at the UofM.
The three NPR stations are based in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Ypsilanti.
I am a manager at a certain famous deli and food store in one of the above cities. Do you know the business I'm talking about? It's been around since 1982...

ROTFLMAO!!!
I strongly reccomend all of Al Franken's books. They are really funny and really smart and I'm really glad he's out there.

It would not happen to be the one that had import and export of hard to get foodstuffs...and had really famous sandwiches?
Why, yes, it is indeed!

Well, I've worked there for 5 years, so you never saw me.
Hey, if you let me know you're coming, I'll hook you up!
That's good, too, because they raised the prices to pay for my raise.
