Just heard on Fox News that some band has been banned from playing at some place anymore because one of the singers made a joke about GWBush's legs between songs.
I just can't wait until the 9'x16' oil paintings of Dubya in that fdorky flight suit start popping up in town squares across America, and roving gangs of "Young Republicans" are given carte blanch to beat those overheard speaking ill of the Unholy Trinity (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld)...

That seems about right. Sorry I didn't catch the details - I don't usually pay much attention to FOXnews but I was flipping through the channels and they were showing a video of Bush jogging, so I stopped. Didn't catch/remember the name of the place (I'm thinking they said Borders, apparently some of the larger ones host bands now and then?) or where it happened, but yes - the band was banned form playing there again because of remarks made by the singer re: Bush's legs...

I'd have to go look it up, but there's a site that details all of the errors in fact that Coulter made in her best-selling book, Slander, which supposedly exposed the liberal media (if I recall correctly, she didn't make it past the first page before stating something that wasn't true.)
I don't have the direct link, but that is available on the Spinsanity website.
Coulter claimed, for example, this supposed bias because, I believe it was the Times, used the phrase "right-wing" x-number of times while it only used the phrase "left-wing" some much less number of times. The Spinsanity article did the same search Coulter did, and she was right in numbers only - most of the time "right-wing" was used it was in the Sports section, which Coulter neglected to inform her readers.
Typical conservative disinformation.

No kidding - when?
I lived there 1994-1999.
Small world...
Yes, I re,member when O'really? did Inside Edition. Another bastion of journalistic integrity.
Now, I don't listen to his radio show on purpose, but one day, while I was waiting to pick my kid up at school, for some reason the only station that would come in was the one airing his show.
In that 10 minute or so torture, I remember hearing at least 5 things that were false, alas, I don't recall all of them. But one thing did stick in my mind - he said something about having "been in 4 wars" to preotect our "freedom" in this country.
That sounded like bullshit right off the bat. What '4 wars' did he have in mind, I wonder? Wasn't he doing IE when the first Gulf War happened? So, it wasn't GW1 or GW2. He isn't old enough to have been in WW2 or Korea. Nam? Maybe.
What other wars are there?
Does anyone know if he was even in the military?

Interesting, but...
quote:
Although I have no idea who Bill O'Reilly is (except that he's some conservative talk show host), it is entirely possible that someone no older than I am could have been in four "wars" (using the term loosely) before GWI. If he was in Vietnam, it makes it even easier. Consider:
1. Direct Military Intervention (ie, shoot-em-ups): Vietnam/Cambodia (the last real war), Lebanon (campaign medal: Order of the Sitting Duck), Granada (chicken stealing), Panama (chicken stealing again, but our own chickens).
Problem: It was Marines in Lebanon, Army in Grenada and panama, and not the same units.
quote:
2. Other Military Intervention: Libya ("Bomb 'em back into the stone age. Ooops, too late"), Liberia ("What d'ya mean, 'they're eating our expats'? Get 'em out!)
Libya was an Air Force thing, and only a handful of F-111s were involved.
quote:
3. Military "advisory" missions: Bolivia ("This is corn. This is coca. We want you to grow corn, okay?"), Haiti (the most democratic country in the Western Hemisphere. By 2050, every citizen will have had the opportunity to be president at least once.), Honduras (erm, Nicaragua but not REALLY Nicaragua), El Salvador ("What death squads?")
O'Really was on TV during Haiti, and 'advisors' don't count (unless you are a conservative trying to pump up your patriotism scale).
quote:
The more interesting question to ask would be "what did you do there?".
edited to add "explanations" for our foreign friends who may not be completely up on recent US history.
In the end, it is possible that he took part in 4 military exercises - providing he was in the Marines, the Army, and the Air Force.
That or, far more likely, he is just a lying right-winger trying to make himself appear more 'rugged'...

O'Really has been in journalism for "30 years", according to himself on a C-Span book review clip I just watched.
So, I think it is obvious that O'Really just plain lied.

He and I were discussing writing a grant together at one point, but it sort of fell through - he ended up getting a fellowship of some sort to go to Eritrea.
He is a good guy.
