Ever hear of the "self-made man"? The man who lifts himself up "by his bootstraps."? The guy who "assumes command"? Perhaps this God was just an amazingly creative guy, and the world he created was their world, not the universe as we know it. Seems silly, I know, but then so does the alternative. db ------------------ Doesn't anyone graduate Sunday School?

There is some confusion regarding a universe created from nothing. The vacuum is not nothing, as it is just the ground state of the field(s). Often there is talk that the entire universe, including all of spacetime, was created as a fluctuation in nothing. This to is not the existential nothing, as the pre big bang void refered to is a state where spacetime does not exist, but the laws of physics do. So in that sense, the question would only be changed to, "why are there laws of physics instead of nothing?".

Welcome, Thom What is a thomasian institure? What is this point of view? Could you start a separate topic for it, rather than clutter this one?

what i meant by a thomasian institute is that i study in a university [university of sto. tomas]whose teachings are mostly based on the teachings of st.thomas of aquinas. [This message has been edited by thomasian, 07-29-2003]

The knowledge of one man seems a rather narrow basis for an entire degree program. Do you mean that your study of all subjects is tempered by a worldview that approximates that of Thomas?

no.our patron saint is st.thomas that's why professors usually add his contributions to our lectures.we don't really focus on him.maybe mention him once in a while but never dwell on it.our courses are interdisciplinary.

not really.im just being more specific in message number 36 i think .what i mean is that, we usually chip in aquinas' teachings every now and then in our theology class.but in our whole curriculum [in all our subjects] we call it interdisciplinary [This message has been edited by thomasian, 08-02-2003]
