as wife or mistress?
But if ther are men (esp rich powerful sexually desirable men) that find female submissiveness and even the physical sexual objectification of women to be 'sexy' is it realistic to expect women to rise above this and not seek to to be sexually attractive to these men on these terms?
Especially as this can be advantageous to both from an evolutionary sense, the successful male gets access to young breeding females and the females get access to resources and protection for them and offspring.
This is why it could result in run-away sexual selection for creative\successful men and youthful\post-pubescent women.
... is it realistic to expect women to rise above this and not seek to to be sexually attractive to these men on these terms?
I think we both broadly agree that this is not what either of us ideally would wish to see.
It's the difference between life-mates and sex-toys.
Enjoy.

In evolutionary terms surely it is a question of whether 'sex toys' successfully breed successful offspring as compared to the offspring of 'life partners'?

Re: as wife or mistress?
Actually I would think it depends on whether sex-toy behavior with successful male was more successful than life-mate with non-successful male behavior.
It may only last for breeding years for sex-toys unless they can garner some guarantees ("diamonds are a girl's best friend") ...

Age inappropriate
Miley Cyrus picture and the silly uproar over her overexposure picture ...
First, I think bare backs are one of the sexiest parts of a well formed female.
This picture makes me think of a child wrapped in a towel after swimming.
What's your take?
Well, for starters you say that bare backs on women are attractive, but then you go on explaining that it looks like an innocent picture of a child wrapped in a towel after swimming. There is a little confusion. Either you picked up on the sensuality that the magazine and photographer were going for, or it is innocuous.
What do I think? I think the portrayal was exactly what they were going for -- sensual. There is no doubt that is what they were going for. I think why it is controversial is because she is 15 years old.
I believe in age appropriateness. Things like the Disney Channel, of all things, are moving further and further away from a demographic for young children and have begun advertising to the pubescent and pre-pubescent demographic.
Personally I think Walt Disney is rolling in his grave for a number of reasons, this one included, and I think the junk they are putting out now on that channel is not good for young kids who don't need to be taught how to act. We can learn alot about sociology by studying television shows. One thing that stands out is that sassyness in the form of Alpha females is now considered normal female behavior, and dopey and dumb in submission to females is now considered normative masculine behavior.
It's no wonder why young girls in particular now have serious self-esteem issues and are extremely self-conscious about body images. I think it is things like this that perpetuate this social phenomenon. At that age their hormones are already raging, and they are just trying to make sense of it. The teen years are a tough time, as it is the transition from child to adult, which without that critical bridge in between would be a gigantic chasm. The last thing they need is something else to cause them too excessively worry about.
