Percy, I still can't do it, it worked once, then vanished. Mark

Hi Mark, The last time you tried it it uploaded a null file. I think the code module that performs the update must be dying in midstream. I'll try to take a more suspicious look at the code. When you enter the pathname for your avatar image, are you typing it into the box, or are you using the "Browse" button? ------------------ -- | Percy | | EvC Forum Administrator |

Hi Mark, Another question - did you by any chance enter a URL instead of the pathname to an image on your computer? ------------------ -- | Percy | | EvC Forum Administrator |

Percy, That must've been it, a URL, not my own image. Mark

Okay - still a bit mysterious, because though it explains some things it doesn't explain others. I'll add the ability to upload URLs sometime down the road - in the meantime, you can always put a copy of any image being displayed in a browser onto your own computer by using right click to copy it, then pasting it into a directory on your own machine. Thanks for helping me get to the bottom of this. Looks like I'll need a few more clues. So far 2 out of 11 people have had a problem. ------------------ -- | Percy | | EvC Forum Administrator |

Percy, Another VERY wierd problem, I downloaded another image, & "browsed" my way to it, as usual, it showed the correct image, but now shows the old Eryops image scaled at the new images dimensions. Sorry, I seem to be causing problems. I won't tamper any more, so that you can see the rescale yourself. [edit] Oh NOW it wants to work! Anyway, 10 points to the first person who can name the reconstruction . Mark ------------------ Occam's razor is not for shaving with. [This message has been edited by mark24, 08-03-2003]

Great pic! The avatar image itself can be of any size. Only on the message pages is the avatar scaled to fit - in case nobody's noticed yet, if you click on an avatar it will be displayed full size. ------------------ -- | Percy | | EvC Forum Administrator |

Re: Avatar at time of message 24
Percy (Admin): I was hoping it would cause you some time and trouble to track down the bug that was causing my avatar to display as a black square (when in reality, it was the evil anti-avatar all along). I've never tried to get into and modify others profiles, but I was tempted to try to upload your owl, complete with Groucho Marx eyebrows and moustache. AM

Re: Avatar at time of message 24
Hi Moose!
I've never tried to get into and modify others profiles,... I wouldn't touch a profile without a good reason. I used ftp to download your image directly from the server, edited it, then uploaded it again. Probably just as ethically questionable, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Is the black square what you'd like? If so I'll put it back - and we'll change your ID to Darth Admin, moderator of the dark side. By the way, changes to avatars take effect immediately - you don't have to wait for message pages to be regenerated. --Percy
