Re: Republican voters lost the election.
Being that im a former Marine(I was 18 and and stupid-lol) I can tell you that troops are considered a weapon. So, yes, if troops mobilize you are deploying them, they are a weapon. If tanks are mobilized you are deploying them as well, they are a weapon. If missiles are placed into position you have deployed them, they are all considered weapons. There is no difference between troops, tanks, or missiles, they are considered US government property and weapons for war, and all 3 get deployed.
Absolutely correct. When a military unit moves from it's stateside home to a theatre of operations, it has been deployed, both troops & equipment, and equipment includes all weapons systems that the particular unit has whether conventional or otherwise.

Re: Republican voters lost the election.
Err, Ludo, you're not thinking of running for president are you?
No, i'm not charismatic, nor am i willing to figratively 'sell my soul' to get elected. Plus my skin color is wrong for a bunch of people to elect me for historic reasons alone.
Of course, I might have in the past, and you just don't know it...
The idea that the guy on the button doesn't know the meaning of the word 'deploy' scares the f'ck ou of me
Sorry about that. my bad
But since you feel that way, then you must have been in a hole for 8 years, considering the word mihaps Bush has made over the years, along with being able to push "the Button".
Why do republicans insist on making themselves such easy targets for ridicule?
Because with Billy Clinton out of office, we need some new material.

Secretary of Commerce, Herbert Hoover's image was transmitted from DC to New York in 1927, so televisions actually did exist by 1929. They were just very rare.
Also, it's not clear that Biden was referring to FDR's Fireside Chats or to President Roosevelt; and neither did Biden state that Roosevelt addressed the nation, as some bloggers have accused him of doing.
In 1929, Roosevelt was governor of New York and would have been in a position to be on television during the crash in Oct 1929. Particularly since television sets were available to the public by that time and he had already started his fireside chats in March 1929 (while governor of New York) at the same station that had already broadcast the first television drama, The Queen's Messenger, in 1928 -- Schenectady, NY station WGY. Roosevelt was well aware of the power of radio, so it would not be a stretch to suggest he would have recognized the power of television.
A little more digging into the historical archives could confirm whether Roosevelt addressed New Yorkers via television during the crash of 1929 or not, but as far as I've been able to research, Biden's statement is still plausible.

One of the most despicable things I have read in a long time, Buz's rantings notwithstanding. You should be ashamed. I am sure you are not, typical Right Wing Authoritarian double standard.
On Palin... As an Alaskan I have watched Palin for many years. One of the joys of this campaign has been watching the rest of you learn how much she sucks. None of her gaffes were a surprise to us.
One point I find really telling and hilarious is how she was treated by AK Repubs before and during the presidential election. Many (if not most) of my friends are Republicans (not your typical neocons, more that rebellious libertarian-type conservatives). After Sarah became governor they almost to a person expressed great regret, after more and more of her policies only worsened our economy after the great Murkowski debacle. However, within the week of her VP nomination the prior 18 months suddenly disappeared, they all claimed to love her and claimed to have always loved her. Those of us paying attention find such things to be really really funny.

One of the most dispicable things I have read in a long time...you should be ashamed
Like most of the people on here, and countless others, who are bashing Palin? Like Jon Stewart telling her "Fck you." and Betty White calling her a "Crazy Btch", and you saying she "sucks"? Like SNL making the statement that palin's coming grandchild was fathered by Her husand?
Its okay on here to bash palin and McCain and the like, but once you bash Obama and his followers, ITS WAR!!!
One of the joys of this campaign has been watching the rest of you learn how much she sucks.
As opposed to Obama, who blows?

Not sure where you picked up that idea. I mean seriously, check out the Daily Show coverage of the DNC for some good Obama-bashing.
Besides, you'd probably defend McCain or Bush or many other republicans from liberal bashing, right? So why the tirade against liberal defense of our own from conservative bashing?

Not quite right. The winds usually blows West to East over America, so it is Palin who blows and Obama who sucks.

Yes, except any president who was of color would be a historic event in this country. You know damn well what you meant.

Jon Stewart's "Fuck You" was, if I remember correctly, in response to the story that under Palin's mayorship the police of Wasilla charged rape victims for their rape kits, an act that frankly deserves a "Fuck You" in the least. The SNL sketch was clearly satire of the media who knew nothing of Alaska.

I wish I had joined the Marines when I was 18 instead of becoming a stupid frat boy.
It's the exact same thing, only we wear a uniform. Barracks at night are a frat-houses.
And in my defence I joined in 94, when Clinton was at the helm, it was safe for us. I would not have joined with GWB in charge. Then again im 33 now so I don't know what the 18 year old me would have done with a GWB admin. I was really gun-ho at 18 so I probably would have joined anways.

Re: Republican voters lost the election.
Even if we take the second sense of the word deploy (and I do think that's the one Biden intended), it still isn't a gaffe because Pakstan did indeed deploy nuclear wepons in a test site. (But not against other countries).

Re: Republican voters lost the election.
Actually, it was in reference to the "real American . . .small town America" statement Palin made. The statement that insinuated anyone from a large town was not "American". Of course, that would mean that half of the 79% of americans who live in urban areas (including suburbs)--the half living in cities larger than 50,000 people--are arguably not "American".
Quite insulting to say the least.
The rape kit charging deserves a "fuck you", but I don't think JS was referring to that.

Actually it insulted those who live in any size residential area, not just large cities. This would be just about the entire area of such states as Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island & New Jersey
