Re: ignorance and common "sense"
Sorry for snapping at you like that. I've been having high blood pressure for what the christian bastards have been doing to my country and my fellow citizens. I'll shut up now.

Re: common sense is world view applied to reality
For me, at present, not to use science to inform and conform your common sense is foolish.

I am not sure what you mean by that?
Can you give an example?

Re: common sense is world view applied to reality
Common sense is in many ways similar to good judgement and wisdom. In order to have them in good proportion you need learning and experience. Today, one important part of learning is scientific, so this learning is of capital importance to have a good common sense. Any one that would pretend to have a good and acceptably reliable common sense, without proper scientific learning woud be quite a fool.

Hi guys,
Given the regular creationist appeal to common sense, whether directly or indirectly, I am also interested in examples of established science that would appear to confound common sense. In particular examples of common sense defying scientific principles that are accepted by pretty much everybody, creationist and evolutionist alike.

Something iof the past
It's pretty simple, really. You start with common sense, and once that is exhausted science has to take over to make any additional progress.
So for people who are satisfied living in a pre-scientific world, common sense is probably held in high regard. For all the others, it needs to be approached with a lot of skepticism.
Things that we don't yet understand, are not likely to be understood via common sense. I think it has largely played its role by now.
