And mine didn't count either, but it still contributed to to 20% of voters in this county that went for our new president-elect. And shit, we got texas up to 45% blue!
Keep on voting. The day Texas will turn blue will come sooner rather then later, thanks to us latinos... That will be a shoker for many conservatives.

My family in VA is quite pleased that VA finally went blue--after electing two democrats to governor (we have a one term limit), two democratic US senators, and our state government slowly turning blue.
My family (and where I grew up) is not exactly known for its liberalism, except for coal-mining Wise county, and despite having had a democrat represent us for 18 years in the US congress, they are not exactly happy that VA turned blue.
Personally, I'm extremely proud of VA and CO turning blue.

Other than the cores of the big metropolitan areas, the Rio Grande Valley was the part of Texas that voted for Obama. And that's Latinos doing that. Muchas gracias!

I anxiously await the final chapter of the Mexican-American War. Don't forget, however, that Texas is a republic”armed and dangerous. But I do think your timing is good for a Mexican re-annexation of the Lone Star state.

What's the difference between (2) and (3)?
2 means even if jesus christ II (aka bush) ascends to heaven tomorrow in front of everyone, Illinois would still vote blue.
3 means even if tomorrow I turn fundy along with 1000,000 other people in Illinois, the same number of electoral votes from Illinois would still go to the demo candidate. This is why we have such a thing as "minority presidents". They became presidents even though they lost the populus vote.

Sarah's fresh and bright
Given the sad state of affairs in the Republican party, I'm not so sure that Sarah Palin's VP nomination was a mistake. She's fresh, and I say that even as a left-wing pinko commie rebel with a cause. She's authentic, otherwise SNL would leave her alone. (Just how much attention would Elizabeth Dole have gotten on SNL?) She's smart; look how fast she learns. I like here, but I'd never vote for her politics. She's Anita Bryant on a snow machine, and I'd pay big bucks to see her beat the shit out of Oprah Winfrey in a cage brawl.

I couldn't help but think of that expression, often credited to Charlie Sheen, "You don't pay them to sleep with you, you pay them to leave." Obviously the reference is to prostitutes but it seems somewhat apt here. If you catch any of these interviews with the various Republican pretenders to the throne, there is a text and a subtext in what they're saying. The text is some version of, "Sarah Palin's future will be decided by the voters." The subtext is, "Sarah, your money is on the dresser. You can find your way out."
And please, as you're gearing up to send me accusations of sexism, I'm not saying she's a hooker. What I am saying is that she was hired with only one qualification which made her relevant for the first fifteen minutes and has had us checking our watches every minute since.

Sarah and Mission Impossible
Just a little bit cynical there, Michael? Do you really think American life is very different from SNL? I give the American electorate credit, though, for electing Obama. And I give Sarah Palin credit for taking on Mission Impossible when she already had a mess of problems on her plate. I don't have to like her politics to admire her. Her transparency was refreshing.

I may have mistakenly pegged you earlier as a fundy, and for that I apologize. I think I simply incorrectly interpreted your comment about Jesus and bugs bunny.

Transparency vis--vis the opacity of substance? Refreshing vis--vis the stale smell of elephant dung?

Well...that's all fine and dandy...except for one tiny little detail. She was anything but transparent. She really provided little to no information...other than her annoying banter about being a "maverick" and a "hockey mom". How many interviews did she give? Let's see, I can think of only two...and she did not do too well in either (the Fox "interview" cannot seriously be considered as anything other than a complete joke).
And to call your opponent...a candidate for President of the United States...a Socialist and/or a play-buddy with terrorists can hardly be considered as being "refreshing". Disgusting...perhaps...but not really so refreshing. And if I had to listen to her invoke Joe the fucking plumber one more time...yaaaaack!! Man, what was it with the Republican Party being so fascinated with a fake plumber? The fact that this guy now has a publicity management agent, probably a book deal, and I heard rumors of a County Western recording contract...to me speaks volumes about both the Republican Party and Country Western music...in that, IMHO, both are currently vacuous and require very little intelligence. OK...maybe that's being a bit harsh on Republicans...but it still hold for Country Western music.
But I digress. So anyway, how exactly did she come off in your book as "transparent" and/or "refreshing"? I will grant you the fact that she certainly demonstrated the "opacity of substance" you referenced. She showed an incredible dullness of knowledge...was quite murky on facts...and seemed pretty cloudy on most of the issues. But that doesn't make her transparent...unless by transparent, what you meant was that a majority of the American people saw see right through her divisive crap (and if that's the case, then I have obviously misread you yet again).

All of which makes her a crafty politician. Just what do you expect from politics? I've seen interviews with Sarah that appeared to be candid and honest enough for me. I didn't see any Richard Nixon in her, or any George W. I saw a young mother of five who was as genuine and authentic as anybody can be in politics, even if she stands opposit to some of my key liberal values.
But, hey, if you call yourself a Democrat and bought the Bill Clinton bullshit then you wouldn't see what I see in Sarah Palin.

But I thought you said she was refreshing? Repeating the same old Republican scare tactic bullshit does not make someone a crafty politician. It makes them an asshole...just like most other politicians.
FTF writes:

I expect them to rise above calling their opponent a socialist and a terrorist. It was disgusting what she did...simply disgusting. Did you know that the Secret Service saw a huge increase in death threats against Obama after her rallies? She incited people to a level of violence that was completely uncalled for.
FTF writes:

I'm assuming that these are all post election interviews. She avoided the press like the plague during the actual campaign.
FTF writes:

Really? Genuine? Really? I thought you said she was a politician like all other politicians. You seem to be repeatedly contradicting yourself in your own post.
FTF writes:

Oh come on. Ya know making comparisons to Clinton is becoming like making comparison the Hitler. Every time someone wants to denigrate someone on the political front, they simply compare them to Clinton.
But what was so bad and the Clinton administration? Was it perfect? Fuck no. Did I agree with everything he did? Fuck no. Would I have preferred him as President again as compared to this catastrofuck of an Administration. Fuckin-a-right I would have. Give me Bill Clinton any day over the assholes we've been stuck with for the last eight years.

I don't see much of a Nixon in her either, but I see a lot of W in her. Like him, she seams to believe that god is guiding her hand and chosing her as his earthly tool. Like him, she shows a comtempt for science and Higher education. even the way that she misspronounces Nuclear reminds me of him. (that was not an complete list of things about her that remind me of him. I'm too busy for that right now. may be later).
