You mean the bigotry and intolerance that stand behind the god-hates-fags phenomenon?

Alas, I don't think that it will happen, despite the calls for it by some people.

what of the bigotry against us atheists perpetrated by the religious zealots? You seem to ignore that.
Quite frankly, any claim of atheistic secular fundamentalist bigotry and intolerance toward the religious is ridiculous, because it largely does not exist. We don't care what you believe, but we do care if you try to shove religion down our throats. By the way, being intolerant of intolerance is not a bad thing. And if you're referring to efforts to keep state and church separate, well, perhaps you would like to have the state point cannons at your cathedral? Or perhaps you would prefer to have the Iranian theocracy in charge?

You non-believing Americans just got included as part of a diverse America in your new president's inaugural speech. You now have official recogniction. As for separation of religion and the state in the rest of the ceremony.....no chance.

Did he actually mention atheists in his speech?
I might be wrong, but as far as i heard he(Barack Obamas and Rick Warren) mentioned christians, jews, muslims and some other, but not non-believers. Edited by rbp, : Corrected a grammatical error

from the text of the speech:
For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus ” and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace. And I did hear him say "-and non-believers". Can always re-watch the speech if you want. Give it a few hours and it will show up on youtube, and places like the nytimes or other news orgs will have it. Certainly nice to hear not just someone, but the President, recognize that we exist, and that we are a part of this country.

Will this suffice for your purposes? D Bertot

I personally don't bother for Richard Dawkins and i do not know of the quote you are speaking of. Do you know of any atheist organisation that promotes bigotry? That were my original question. [edit] I don't think that Dawkins ever said religion should be outlawed. I would like to see the quote.Care to provide me with it? Edited by rbp, : No reason given.

I might as well put my rant here.
I've been recording the inauguration. As I watched, I couldn't help but be reminded of how far we as a country have accomplished. I also couldn't help but think of those that are still trapped in some kind of time warp. Why do I say this? With much disappointment, my father is one of those that appear to be trapped in a time warp. Before I say anything further, I want to make it clear that I love my father very much. Does not mean I agree with his ideology. Right to this minute, he still refuses to accept Obama as our legitimately elected president. It became clear very early on that the only reason he opposed Obama was because Obama was black. At first, my father tried to hide this fact. But soon after he just stopped trying and began to give the following reason why he didn't want a black man to be president: the black mentality will ruin our country and that the blacks will take over the country. During the time when we all thought Hillary would become the dem nom, my father absolutely opposed to a woman becoming president. His reasoning was that his personal experience told him a woman wasn't capable of making sound decisions. He also has a whole arsenal of biblical reasons to why a woman should not be put in positions of power. My mother was right there with him supporting this reasoning. As a matter of fact, I've been amazed many months now how much buzsaw resembles my father. It it weren't for the fact that my father don't even know how to shut down a computer, I would have thought they were the same person. Of course, like every racist I've known in my life, my father doesn't admit to being a racist. At this moment, I'm just thankful that people like my parents aren't the majority of our nation. At the same time, I feel a great sense of pity and sadness for those that are left behind in the time warp.

It certainly is different than the opinion stated by Bush Sr that atheists weren't citizens.

Then how do think we will progress in this debate? As i have already mentioned i do not care for you, and i think the mods have been too nice to you. If you do not have anything to contribute to any debate relevant to this forum, then why do you keep posting here? Edited by rbp, : spelling errors Edited by rbp, : --"--

Hey Bertot, considering the fact that you religious outnumber us secularists 100 to 1... or even worse than that, I don't know what the whole fuss is about.
When was the last time you heard of us holding a sign that says "the non-existent god hates christians"? I saw in person a sign that says "god hates fags" not too long ago. So, let's not pretend like we want to put you guys in chains. All we want is for you guys to leave us alone.
