As always, it's drawing the line that's the problem. How do you know where the figurative ends and the literal begins?

I was homeschooled one year, and my mother chose to use a Christian biology textbook. In a discussion in this text about the "image of God," the author actually quoted something like Psalm 61:4 as evidence that God had wings, and that man being created "in the image of God" was thus a figurative description.

Would you mind writing a new version of the Bible that denotes all the words in the Scriptures that are meant to be read literally, and which are meant to be read figuratively? That would be a tremendous benefit to all of us who are uncertain where to draw the line.

It only says "fowls" in the KJV. Newer versions corrected it to "insects" (whether or not the correction is linguistically justified, I can't tell you). But, interestingly, they didn't correct the part about four legs: that's still in there, which means, either God can't count, or somebody involved in writing and/or transmitting the Bible is stupid.

I totally ninja'd you for that one, anyway: it's #8.

Might I suggest this in its place:

32) God apparently didn't make fungus, slime molds or bacteria, or doesn't know how to distinguish them from plants and animals?

Did you notice that Modulous bumped an old thread about "Pi=3?"

Can you talk about pi there? I'd personally like to get back to making a list of facts: we only got to about 40.
