What's with the 300 post limit? Aren't you thwarting discussion by putting a post limit to a thread?
From what I've heard, its a software issue.
Thwarting discussion would be better than the board crashing, don't you think?

As well once that thread closes you can propose a sequel thread for promotion and continue from where you left off.
Good point. I guess discussion isn't thwarted...

The 300-post limit needs to be explained periodically.
Maybe it should be in the FAQ....
The original software used by this board would become very unreliable when a thread grew longer than around 300-400 posts. When this happened posts would be lost, and sometimes even entire threads, so we imposed the 300 post limit.
Got it. I've heard something along those lines before and that's pretty much what I meant by "software issues"
It was then discovered that the limit was actually a benefit, as it imposed an endpoint on what would otherwise be an unending discussion. Sequel threads were and are common, but they provide an opportunity to refocus on the essential issues, or to modify the focus to what had been discovered to be the essential issues during discussion.
The new software has no such limitation, but we continue to find the 300-post limit very useful.
It doesn't bother me and I too think it is beneficial.
.Later this year the message database will be moving into MySQL, which should provide even greater reliability, as well as make possible the implementation of many new features. One feature would be setting the post limit of threads, and another would provide automatic notices as a thread approaches the limit.
Weren't you talking about going to dBoard 3.0 sometime before? Did you decide on MySQL instead?
I've worked with MySQL a little {but I didn't really feel like learning a whole new language }. The available features are nice.
Might be able to improve the search function then, no? Or should we just use the "Google site:" search function?

Re: uplift???
The plan was to follow the river that cuts through town upstream, which turned out to be largely impossible, but one of the shots I got was this:

It's a public link, so you can open it even if you're not in facebook.
I don't know how much you care about anonymity, but you've totally blown it there, CC.

How do dogs sense earthquakes?
A quick Google search says that we don't know. Any ideas?

Re: How do dogs sense earthquakes?
Sub sonics? Dog can hear lower frequencies than us so I wonder of they can here rumbles before we can.
Yeah, you're probably right.
You can see in the video how the dog quickly looks to the ground like its reacting as if it heard something.
I guess they only react to some physical stimulus any way and sub sonics seems plausible.
I've heard about a death detecting cat (in some oncology hospice) who would go and sleep near a patient who would die that night.
All anecdotal, but interesting none the less.
And there's the dog who could smell cancer.

Where is the best place to put neat things like this?

How hard would it be to impliment a function where I could see just the messages of mine that were Cheer/Jeer'd?
I'll notice my rating change and then wonder what posts impacted that... It'd be nice if I could sort my posts by rated/unrated.
