I can't seem to change my avatar. Can any one help?
It's all right, I've done it, now. I needed to use a giff image rather than a jpeg.

You've already changed it. It's a white kitten with it's eyes closed and its mouth openned.
You need to press the refresh button, silly.

You know, I've changed my avatar several times, and that happened to me a lot, too. Sometimes, a screen comes up that says, "this is what your new avatar looks like," but it shows the old avatar. But, next time I log in, the avatar will have changed.
I guess that sometimes it just takes awhile.
Or something like that.

it's not that it takes a while. The cache has to be refreshed on your computer to display the new image for yourself.

Some businesses with big networks have servers that cache all images coming in from the Internet. They serve up the cached versions to local machines instead of refetching them. There's nothing an individual user can do to flush these caches, you just have to wait.

I can't get mine to change and I've been trying since yesterday. It's an 86k jpeg. Should I wait a while yet?
added by edit
Erm . . . looks like it's changed! Whenever I've entered my profile, it shows the old avatar. I haven't posted any messages on the forum since then so I couldn't see it had changed

Is that a fox you know, or any old fox?

It's a picture I took of a fox that used to curl up and sleep in our garden in the afternoons. I seem to remember I'd cut a tree down and the limbs were stacked up for a while; he must have liked that.
Just got tired of me ol' mug everywhere. Shame I can't change my username as well, but then people wouldn't recognise my old posts.

You could change it and put your old user name in you sig like Mantis/Bluejay.
That way you could have a new name, keep your post count but everyone would be able to see who you are.
Nice story about Mr Fox!

Thanks
OK, so I could be . . . the poster formerly known as LindaLou? How do I change my username, do I need to ask Percy?

Go to your profile and set up a user alias in the 'define alias' box. You can then switch between your prime username and any alias you set up by clicking on the 'button' next to that alias and saving your settings.
If you hover over my username <<< (iano) you'll see a list of my aliases (in this case but 1) pop up. I don't think you can change your prime username though (so LindaLou will always pop up when someone hovers over you <<)

Thank you. Interestingly, I don't remember seeing anyone do that before here.
Not sure what I think of the new name yet, but it was hard to find something. I don't think I'm a Reynard.

When you hover the cursor over any username then the entire list of aliases is included in the hoverbox. Some people have more aliases than others, for example hover over this one: johnfolton
