Requestion: would it be possible to show the message being replied to in a window, as one sees with a general reply, so that one can reply to a long post without having to page up to write, page down to read, page up to write etc? This usually drives me to use notepad to compose in.
Thanks for all the effort btw - having been on several blog sites etc and seeing how much they SUCK to use compared to this forum, really shows what a good job you have already done.

Re: New reply tab/window
I usually right click on the "reply to message" button and then select "open in a new tab". That way I can jump between the tabs without having to scroll.
After the right click, you can also chose "open in a new window". Then you could have both windows displayed at the same time.
I'm using Firefox, but I think the current IE also works the same way.

Hi Percy,
I'm getting strange symbols instead of the proper ones that should be present. It may have something to do with my language settings. My keyboard is DE (German), I'm using firefox (latest one as I just updated it recently). I'll copy and paste examples:
He was a geneticist in Zelensky’s lab
evolution, and pretty much the worlds’ authority on BioPhilately.
of how molecular biology “took over” biology departm
What other infos about my system do you need?
{ABE} Actually I just noticed this symbol problem on another website. I'm going to deinstall some of my FF add-ons and then check to see about having/getting the newest version of FF. I'll edit this again later with my results.
{ABE} I tried everything in FF; no fix.
Then I opened I.E. and found the same symbols WTF
Edited by CosmicChimp, : No reason given.
Edited by CosmicChimp, : second ABE

New Icon
What is the icon in the address bar and on my tabs?
The horizontal blue bar look like it could be a top of a page and then it kinda looks like a forum (do I see two check-marks there or something?), but what's with the red blood dripping down? Or is that a ribbon? WTF?

Re: New Icon
A favicon.ico somehow snuck into the HTML directory, I have no idea what it's supposed to be. I removed it, but most browsers cache it, so you'll likely see it until the next time you log off.
AbE: I just took a close look at it using GIMP and I still have no idea what it is.
AbE: If anyone knows of a nifty icon for EvC please let me know.

Hi Admin,
I am still getting these weird symbols, here is another example:
And you cannot logically say that C = D or C D because you don't know. Thanks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That little box should be a symbol for "does not equal" crossed through equals sign. It is happening in firefox and I.E. I did'nt look at it on my other newer PC but that will be the next step.

When I put an equals sign in a message, like this: ≠
And then in the previewed message copy the equals sign and paste it into the message box, it still looks like an equals sign.
But I've tried four browsers, and none can make sense of your weird symbol, which displays variously as an empty square box, a box with 0's and 1's inside, and nothing.
Can you point me to the webpage that had the not equals sign that didn't cut-n-paste properly?

Here is the evc post and then the exact part:
EvC Forum: Why "Immaterial Pink Unicorns" are not a logical argument
That isn't true. My statement wasn't true; your statement
wasn't true; that doesn't mean you and I said the same thing.

quote:But the real comparison is that

C is an example of A
D is an example of A
    Therefore C = D

And you cannot logically say that C = D or C D because you don't know. Thanks.

Don't confuse equality with
FF gives the zeroes and ones symbol; IE gives the empty box. I've got the newest version of FF. 3.0.6 or something like that.

Re: New Icon
I've changed the website icon, can people tell what it is?
These icons are cached by browsers, it might not show up immediately.

Re: New Icon
Near as I can tell, the icon kind of looks like one of those "close encounter with the third kind" aliens.
There's a trapezoidal base. Then its body, which is a small square or rectangle. The head is a triangle, with two black eyes. The triangle is oriented "\/". Then there's a line that sits atop the triangle. The figure itself is white, while the background is black.

Re: New Icon
To me it looks more like two black faces facing each other, probably in a debate.
Or, if that's not it, Laurel and Hardy silhouettes?

If you use the proper HTML literal for "not equal" (≠) or just cut-n-paste the "not equal" symbol from somewhere (this one is cut-n-pasted from your post: ≠), then you should always get that symbol.
It is possible that the symbol in Rrhain's post was mistranslated when all the forum messages were transfered over. In fact, the "" in "Mnchen" was originally mistranslated, and I had to fix it.

Site Going Down
The new server has been broken into already and has to have the OS reinstalled. This will happen this afternoon. The site will be down until at least late this evening. Sorry for the inconvenience.
