That is about the most asinine thing I have ever seen. I have no respect for it. It only reinforces my belief in God when I see humans do stupid shit like this. Reminds me why I haven't come in here for so long.
From a spectators PoV you seem like a bit of a douche.......

Yea, they killed Jesus too.
Aren't you glad they did?
Who would you worship if they hadn't?
Btw, if spectators killed GOD then I'm going to worship the spectators...those are real badasses!

Re: Evidence
As for string theory, I see much of it and much of quantum science as supersophisticative tiptoeing around the tulips in the reality garden so as to convince the sheeple who haven't a clue to delve into and get hooked on secularism.
Yeah, string theory is asked to be taken on faith, just like religious mythology.
Some of the notable scientists who use it admit it's mysterious and controversial.
So was Lenny Bruce, who cares? Unfortunately most aspects of science are very difficult to understand, let alone fully comprehend. But, the method used by science is one of objective evidence -vs- subjective experiences, and as such proves to be, at the very least, un-bias in that sense.

Re: Evidence
Sounds like there would be no problem if they called it the "String hypothesis" then.
Well, technically, it's sort of both. It's refered to as theoretical physics.

Theoretical physics employs mathematical models and abstractions of physics in an attempt to explain experimental data taken of the natural world.

Re: Evidence
What is the objective evidence in favour of string theory?
Well, string theory is a theory that tries to explain gravity. Gravity is a known force so no faith is required to begin studying the phenomenon.

Re: Evidence
I am just asking what links the concept of vibrating strings to the fact of gravity? Is it just abstract mathematics or is there a more empirical evidential basis?
Since it's theoretical physics I would say yes, just abstract math. But remember we're talking about 1 dimentional strings that are smaller than Planck scale. Not only do we not have the equipment to do that, the tighter we try to compress quantum fields the crazier they get.
Our ability to use abstract maths to derive highly plausible and indeed verified (GR, QED) hypotheses is, I think, both interesting and different to the normally very empirically led scientific process of discovery.
Well GR explains macro scales, QM explains micro scale, and what is trying to be done is simply to unify the 2, so it can ONLY be through abstract math.
But I would agree that it's much different.

I love the "about" 99.9% of the time. Wouldn't it have been easier to just say "about" 100% of the time.
The "atheists hate God" comment is always baffling to me also.
I always like to reply with "do you hate unicorns?".
It's almost like their self-centered egos can't fathom that people actually don't believe any of that religious crap and feel like we simply have animosity toward their specific mythical character.
I haven't visited that website but I hate it already.

Re: What If
Take an evolutionist's most cherished belief; say, "It's not possible for a God to exist, I can't hear YOU, NA-NA NA-NA NA-NA."
Hmmm, I question your use of the word "evolutionist."
As an example, I would say Catholic Scientist is an "evolutionist," that believes God exists.
I am also an "evolutionist," but I don't believe God exists. I think that simply makes me an atheist. Evolution need not be a factor.

Re: What If
I thought the degree to which I prejudiced the case against science would be recognized as hyperbole. Even in the worst case scenario, a genuinely, curious mind recognizes the question more then the attack upon the world view.

Re: What If
The new tag says I didn't respond, but I did. It just got lost in the move. I had also modified my post 81 a might to say "I just realized that the second sentence could be interpreted to apply to the instant case rather than the general case: it is meant to apply to the general case.
I still don't think the word "evolutionist" should be used. There are evolutionist that believe in God. I know I'm cherry picking, but from one cherry picker to another, you understand, right?
My reply to post 83 was "I really like the Peanut Gallery. we've got to make more use of it."
This thread should be made more use of, too.
I wasn't going to bother putting them up again, but I can't have the Board saying Oni got the last word in.
God forbid...

Straggler vs RAZD
THE DEBATE BETWEEN STRAGGLER AND RAZD HAS GOTTEN RIDICULOUS
After three threads these 2 seem further from conceding than ever!!!!!
At first I was enjoying this debate, but at this point neither is helping the other come to an agreement on what the real issues are.
One claims to be misrepresented and that lies are being told, the other can't seem to understand where the lies and misrepresentations are, and neither seems willing to bend on the matter.
I'm not calling a winner or loser, I'm calling for an end to the dead end debate.
For the love of "supernatural inherently non-empirical entities," please, I beg of you, walk away to your neutral corners fellas.
