Could someone pleae tell me about this? I have just had 2 sisters visit me and give me a book subtitled Another Testament Of Jesus Christ. It looks like an alternative Bible and I would like to invite discussions on this.
I have visited their website and gleaned a little about their beliefs. I have read about missionary work undertaken by some Mormons, help they give during times of disaster and so on. However, I want to hear more of it in a "real world" context. By this I mean actual words from other Mormons about their religion, how they live and so on.
As an aside I feel I must add that their church looks beautiful, especially one picture of it lit up at night.
One of those two sisters I mentioned explained to me their religion's origin (and their bible contains a foreword & testimonies signifying those 8 witnesses' objectivity). They will return on August 20th to have a further chat with me about my thoughts on their holy book. I have started reading some of it, but I need to prepare for 2 interviews scheduled for me next week (hence why I invited them to return a week after that).
I would like to know more about it through people instead of organisations providing web-based blurb. Does anyone here practise/follow/believe in/etc. this religion? Do theological experts class Mormonism (?) as a denomination of Christianity?

Thank you
Their book contains a long "testimony of the prophet joseph smith" which I read. As I mentioned, 8 witnesses also testified to his accuracy.
Your linked site has interested me greatly - Islamic and Mormon similarities? Wow.

It interests me how those Islamic myths that site throws in my face contains accusations which I could level at Christianity - pagan festivals renamed and moved to another religion, etc... Hmmm.

A Christian explains:

another testament of Jesus Christ
I thank you for your words of advice and concern. They did include little leafs of paper detailing migrations of Levi or Lehi and how Christ said certain things, etc.
I posted this topic on another board at around the time I did it here (the marvels of copy & paste, what?!) and received a tirade from an ex-Mormon who grew up in such a society. His final words pointed out how negatively it had affected him:

NECKWRECKER advised:
Please don't invite them back in your home. It is not worth it. Trust me. I have totally studied this religion inside and out. I have so many written notes on how fucked the whole Mormon thing is. I hate typing and am not going to get into it. Please leave it alone.
Strong words.

Interestingly, on my search for family bonds in mormonism I happed upon this site:
http://www.bikerschurch.com/
"Wow" springs to mind. They even deliver sermons on how to maintain your bike in winter!

I have a pretty neat Mormon friend, who lives a very moral life. Some of that "moral" means not going to R-movies and stuff, but the part I like is he's honest, goes out of his way to be kind to people, and they go to great pains to take care of their own.
...
Now, that said, it's a pretty bizarre religion with pretty bizarre beliefs, just based on what they say themselves.
Thank you. I do, in fact, look forward to talking to those two Sisters. This thread has certainly helped me out a lot, especially with respect to further investigation on my part. I doubt they can convert me away from Islam, but it has certainly made me take more notice of what I used to class as a "fringe religion".

Two Sisters Make A Trip To Huddersfield

Well, they paid me a visit. One of them had either grown very old since when I first saw her, or else someone else had taken her place. They seemed very nice, and certainly do more in terms of going out and preaching about Mormonism than I do with Islam.
Hilariously, I had to rush upstairs as soon as I saw their car pull up because I had a Pro-Pain t-shirt on. They play sort of Hardcore-ish music, and two-thirds of them used to play in Crumbsuckers. That shirt depicts a person I thought represented BVM (Blessed Virgin Mary) holding Christ's decapitated head by his hair, like a war trophy of sorts. I replaced my t-shirt with a nice, thin blue shirt.
We spoke about various religious matters and they told me of their beliefs. We started with them saying a prayer. When we finished they asked ME to say a prayer. I recited one from our Qu'ran, but didn't translate it into English for their benefit. I regret this, since it involved a recital that only one God exists, Allah, and that Mohammed (s.a.w.) came as his last prophet.
I should have told them this so that they wouldn't think I had sneakily tried to convert them to my cause by an appeal to Allah!
I don't consider their Joseph Smith a Prophet. Apparently they still have prophets, one a man called Gordon B. Hinckley. They seem to believe really strongly in this. Any thoughts? After each prophet dies a new one appears. I almost mentioned Buffy The Vampire Slayer but, thankfully, I resisted.
I spoke of similarities with Islam, which intrigued that older lady. She seemed slightly perturbed that Islam's last prophet preached some time during 7th Century AD. I can only assume she noticed those same similarities and wanted to know if Islam had come after Mormonism or not.
