Traste over on the Transition from Chemistry to Biology thread is rippin' some dude named lyx20 up. There haven't been such burns since the last atmospheric nuclear weapons test occurred in China on 16 October 1980. My mum was in the first grade. Where does this guy get it? Bet he gets all the chicks.

Traste over on the Transition from Chemistry to Biology thread, has finally learned how to use proper formatting and piqued my interest as I can now follow his discussion. I responded to him thinking how clever I must be. Then I go back and review the thread. The man has been told literally dozens of times about the meanings to the definitions being used for way over 300 posts in the thread. Tens of individual forum members have patiently (and not so patiently) tried to convince him of the meanings to the terms abiogenesis and spontaneous generation. He don't get it.
I have not given up hope though. First of all he said somewhere in the thread that he has had a rigorous mathematics training. And YES! he learned how to do [qs] quotes. That much is promising. Edited by CosmicChimp, : fixed link and subtitle

I don't know if anybody feels the same - but I feel that creationist posters on EvC have many common traits, as do the scientists.
Being on the scientific side of the divide, I naturally relate to and respect the postings of the scientific heavyweights on the forum. Creationist posts generally seem to me to be rambling, unfocussed, illogical, full of irrelevancies and non-sequiturs.... and above all, it seems impossible to have a discussion that builds to any conclusion There never really seems to be a meeting of minds between the two communities. What do scientists and creationists think?

The mind sets are often different.
Scientists accept tentativity, changing ideas when necessary, and working toward a conclusion based on evidence. Creationists (of the sort that deny evolution, certainly not all of them) require absolutes and often think that if one miniscule part of their TRUTH is wrong, then the whole thing comes falling down around them. They also start with the conclusion, and then search for evidence to back that up, and decide any opposing evidence is a lie, a mistake, a test, or just us being unable to understand what it "really" means. With different mind sets, it's not a huge suprise to see the two camps talking past each other and not with each other.

Try getting creationists to play the "what if?" game. What if tomorrow life was found on Mars: would that?" They can't admit these kinds of questions. One almost always gets back something a long the line of "That's not going to happen so why entertain it?"
Science types do it for fun. Take an evolutionist's most cherished belief; say, "It's not possible for a God to exist, I can't hear YOU, NA-NA NA-NA NA-NA." And ask him, "What if God were directing Evolution?" What happens? He starts spewing out the types of things he would expect to see and not see. Take an evolutionist's most cherished belief; say, "It's not possible for a God to exist, I can't hear YOU, NA-NA NA-NA NA-NA." Hmmm, I question your use of the word "evolutionist." As an example, I would say Catholic Scientist is an "evolutionist," that believes God exists. I am also an "evolutionist," but I don't believe God exists. I think that simply makes me an atheist. Evolution need not be a factor. - Oni If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little. ~George Carlin

I thought the degree to which I prejudiced the case against science would be recognized as hyperbole. Even in the worst case scenario, a genuinely, curious mind recognizes the question more then the attack upon the world view.

The new tag says I didn't respond, but I did. It just got lost in the move. I had also modified my post 81 a might to say "I just realized that the second sentence could be interpreted to apply to the instant case rather than the general case: it is meant to apply to the general case.
My reply to post 83 was "I really like the Peanut Gallery. we've got to make more use of it." I wasn't going to bother putting them up again, but I can't have the Board saying Oni got the last word in. Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. I still don't think the word "evolutionist" should be used. There are evolutionist that believe in God. I know I'm cherry picking, but from one cherry picker to another, you understand, right?

Agreed entirely. I was speaking from the point of view of a certain brand of creationist of whom several names come to mind. I don't hold that science has anything to do with atheism.
This thread should be made more use of, too. I, for one, hope to give you cause to use it often.

I, for one, hope to give you cause to use it often. I'm way too stubborn for that thread.
