Because we don't allow members to delete messages, this feature hasn't been much tested. From your description it sounds like you deleted only one message, message 40, then you posted a new message, this one that I'm responding to, and you expected it to have message 41, but instead it received message 42.

I remember writing this code, but I don't think I ever tested it. Looks like it's off by one, I'll fix it soon since it looks easy.
