Re: Unjust Wrath
I, personally, link my moral compass to how I would like to be treated. My morality is based of MY standards, which are derived from my upbringing, and what I have learned is good for mankind.
I don't need a book to tell me how to treat people. Especially one that spews such filth, then turns around and says "love thy neighbor", then "fuck you, your neighbor is a piece of shit, KILL him and his wife and rape his daughters, then make her your slave for raping her"

Re: Unjust Wrath
Morality would then be defined by the need for a species to succeed. We, as homo-sapiens, are altruistic because we realize inately that we need to watch out for one another. We are a social creature. We realize we need a group, a family, per se, in order to survive, because on our own, we will be outhunted and/or killed.
I can then say to you: why do we see altruism in chimps?

If morality is absolute and unchanging, then what about the other moral dictates of the Bible?
If you have an unruly child, shouldn't you stone him? That's what the Bible says to do.
If you want a wife, can't you go hide in a vineyard, kidnap a girl of your choice, and force her to marry you (and if she doesn't please you in bed, send her packing sans virginity)? That's what the Bible says.
Is ejaculating on the ground punishable by death? The Bible says so.
If I work on the Sabbath, should I be killed? The Bible says so.
but but but.....that's the Old Testament. Jesus changed all that, remember?

That's just it, isn't it? Most christians, some of whom believe even a soft literal interpretation, will tell me that whatever happened to said people, that we (as atheists/moralists/rational thinkers) would see as immoral, they either a) deserved it or b) god said it was ok, and since god says it's ok, THEY think it's ok because god IS morality to them.
Oh what a tangled web we weave.

This poses a question, what makes our standards better than another societies standards?
This poses a question, what makes the christian god more just or right than any other deity?

Mine was more of a rhetorical question. I am beginning to think you are of the mindset that you get to decide what is right or wrong. Mankind is a social creature. We have learned to adapt with groups of people, developed altruism so that we can hone in on making that group function better as a unit. People like Hitler, IMO, are an anomoly. They rise to power and assert their beliefs on the group they have come in power to rule over.
Have there been lots of people like that throughout history? Sure. Does anyone ever say they are morally just in their actions? Not without having the fear of some sort of repurcussion.
What makes our society's definition of morality more true or mor accurate than that of the Nazi society?
We have learned from past mistakes. Our society is what it is because it works for us, as a society. I sense you feel as though you need someone to tell you what is moral?

Just to play devil's advocate here: you do realize they would lock your ass away for being a psycho witch for thinking you can tell the future and for this devil's tool: a "dvd", right?

Maybe you should ask your god, because he does it often.
quote:
1 Samuel 15:3 (King James Version)
3Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Again, if you had read the verse in context you would know that Amalek and his tribe had acted maliciously towards the Israelites
Explain to me how infants and "sucklings" (presumably newborns) could possibly act maliciously towards anyone??????? You are mental man if you defend this shit.

Re: God Easily Provoked
I told you the answer to this already. Balaam the king of Moab paid the Midianites to hire a man to curse Isreal.
Verse please.
As for all your other examples, they are simply following Jewish law. Disobedience to the LORD is a sin. The wages of sin is death. Therefore, disobedience to the LORD is death. Before Jesus came to earth, man was held accountable for his sins. When Jesus came he fulfilled that requirement.
Yep, your god, and all of the people involved in this bible fo yours are fucking sick, twisted individuals if they feel the need to kill babies. Christianity? No thanks! I'll pass.
No one has answered my question yet. Would you send your son or daughter to be tortured and killed so that the very people who tortured and kill him/her could have a chance at salvation?
Cuz you havent asked that until now. I'll give a hearty hell no to that question tho.
