Re: Alejandro Sanz
Hey oni ...
Hope things are good with ya
I don't know if any EvC members listen to spanish music, but for those who do...
I don't usually go to spanish concerts but my mom loves Alejandro Sanz, and I recently took her to his concert. First let me say this, and I know I was with my mom, but Christ, there are some amazing looking women there! I need to start going to these concerts more often. All dudes should go, even if you don't understand spanish.
But honestly, the man was brilliant. I wasn't too familiar with his music but he plays some of the best spanish guitar I've heard. The concert was great, my mom loved it and I got the phone # of the girl sitting next to me - (my mom told me to hit on her, btw).
What a good son you are - glad to hear that mom enjoyed the show, btw ...
Oh, and be careful with that phone number, because as you probably know - those jalapeno's can be very hot and feisty
haha, Alejandro - very good pick. I've never had the opportunity to see him live, but I can imagine the show was awesome. While I'm not into strictly spanish tunes, a lotta love for the style has washed over me throughout the eighteen years or so that I've been into the (primarily acoustic) guitar scene. Spanish rhythm has a very unique, high energy that has captivated me from day one.
I think that may have had something to do with me eventually marrying a lil' butter pecan Rican, err - I mean, a lovely Puerto Rican bride. Alright ... honestly, seeing as you've an equal appreciation of the women from that island, from what I understand, there's probably a good chance that you're not gonna be convinced a lil' spanish guitar fetish had much - if anything, to do with that lol
Anyway, seeing as you posted this bit about Sanz, I thought it only proper to turn you onto another bit of, perhaps, spicy salsa flair.
Have you ever heard of Rodrigo y Gabriela?? They started off in Mexico originally and then rerooted on the other side of the pond a while back - I think they settled in Ireland at this point. They share a very high energy - and often fast & nasty, passion for rhythmic classical guitar, with key influences, as bizarre as it seems, such as Megadeath, Testament snd Metallica, etc..
I think you may be able to hear some of the stuff from their new album, 11:11, at that link (official site). They also do a pretty unique cover of Stairway to Heaven, but the first video below is of the one and only - Tamacun. Gabriela plays a rhythm guitar unlike any other woman that I've ever seen. Ever.
Tamacun live on Late Night ...
The Stairway ...
Off the beaten path of spanish influence is another one of my favorites, Andy McKee.
He's all over the international scene, rather than pissin' away his talent and time soley in the States and his jam sessions are awesome live. This dudes incredible as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not even gonna get into it, as you may not find him that impressive unless you're familiar with, or have an inclination towards, heterodox acoustic music styles. However, I will say that he's very original, as well as a bit animated and just leave it at that for now.
Drifting ...
Rylynn ...
If you dig either, or any of 'em, you can find a bunch more of their stuff on Youtube.
(check for R y G's 'Diablo Rojo' or the cover they perform of Metallica's 'Orion' - also, McKee's 'Art of Motion' or 'Into the Ocean'.)
Hope you enjoy bud ... well, I know you enjoy bud, but I hope you enjoy these tunes too. Maybe with some bud - lol
One Love
