Tyson at his funniest IMO
This to me is his funniest video, and his explanation for UFOs is *curiously* relevant to several current hot-threads.
Great delivery, great timing, hits the punchlines with energy...all-in-all he's a good comedic physicist. lol

LOL.

Are you ready to be abducted?
and "curiously" he says there isn't enough evidence to know, and that he does not believe in a negative hypothesis. Strikes me as an open-minded skeptic, and yes, the proper approach for science.
I'm not sure it's his funniest though, as I thought the first one was better. Of course that is a subjective evaluation eh? And of course, I haven't heard ALL his arguments ...
Enjoy.

Only for comedy material, but I will take something from the ship as Neil suggested.

It seems like Neil, you and myself are in agreement. As I wrote in the Pseudo-thread, Message 101 (which hasn't be replied to ):
quote:
Only when applicable, like when one asks my position on biological alien life. I would see no reason to hold to a negative or positive hypothesis in regards to that question. I agree that at that point, the only honest position is that of agnostic.

I guess great minds do think alike.
I'm not sure it's his funniest though, as I thought the first one was better. Of course that is a subjective evaluation eh?
LOL, yes it is.

Ok, on this one I agree with you. Excellent material and delivery.
Just don't ask me to describe why I distinguish between the two.

Why do you distinguish between the two?
Because "funny" is subjective, just like religion. And no one knows why they like one more than the other.
Is Jesus funnier than Allah? Is Vishnu funnier than Zeus? Is Apollo funnier than Carlin*?
* There are those who feel Carlin was god.

If I had to explain what I distinguished between the two I'd say that, in the first video he had a rehearsed bit of dialogue which forces you to constantly ask yourself, as you're delivering it, "what do I say next?" So you can't be as natural as you'd like.
Where as in the second video, he gets asked a random question which he didn't have anything planed to say as a response. Most, if not all, of what he said in the second video was off-the-cuff, improvised, dialogue. When you do that, you are usually completely natural. And as anyone who has ever seen a comic on TV and the same comic live can tell you, natural is always funnier to watch than rehearsed material.
Here's a comic who I love to watch live. He barely does rehearsed material. I've seen him do an 1 hour set at one club, then head to another club that same night and do a completely different 1 hour set.
Watch both videos and, at least to me, the improvised stuff is funnier than the rehearsed material (which you should be able to notice the difference between the 2 types).
From what I've noticed, it's always funnier when it's off-the-cuff and improvised. Maybe that's what you noticed was different between the 2 DeGrasse clips?

Now I know a comic can't tell the difference between a question and a rhetorical question.

Re: Tyson at his funniest IMO
I love Tyson because he knows how to speak to the layman in non-scientific terms to bring them into the 21st century. He is an excellent spokesman and liason for the scientific community.
I love Dawkins as well but he can get a little too cerebral and uncomprehensible to the scientific illiterate. His style may work in Europe but to us American's Tyson is a little more relatable.

EvC Forum talk show?
These sound like familiar arguments. Makes me think of what an EvC Forum talkshow may look and sound like.
Percy, you could be the Noam Chomsky in the video. RAZD and Straggler for the other two guys maybe? LOL

If Darwin were alive today...
It's a little old, but I recently read that Armstrong was convinced by conspiracy theorists that the moon landing was faked. It made me think that the same methods used by Ralph Coleman to research the fake moon landing, including the arduous task of scouring the internet for years, that are currently used by creationists to disprove evolution, must surely convince Darwin if he were alive today...

You get what you pay for
Adam was hanging around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely.
So, God asked him, "What's wrong with you, my child?"
Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to.
Thinking about it for a moment, God said that He was going to make Adam a companionn and that it would be a woman.
God said, "This pretty lady will gather food for you, she will cook for you, and when you discover clothing, she will wash them for you. She will always agree with every decision you make and she will not nag you. She will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will praise you. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will NEVER have a headache and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it."
Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?"
"An arm and a leg," God replied.
Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"
Of course the rest is history...........
