Re: Giants??
I am impressed at how little it takes to get you rolling on the floor; I detect that often used tactic of debate; sarcasm, which I find is usually brought out when a more logical rebuttal is not available.
I assume then that you are not a fan of paleontology? That you do not accept as real the many dinosaurs and other creatures which are only known from a single tooth or bone?
"we have about 15 good skeletons of T. rex now, including two that are nearly complete. That's a lot compared to most dinosaurs, which are only known from a single tooth or bone"----Don Lessum, Dino" Don Lessem is the leading presenter of dinosaur science. Author of more than twenty books
You are aware that gigantopithecus (for example) and other of God's creatures described in your science textbooks are known from teeth only? (Nebraska man did turn out to be a pig, so perhaps we should take your point)
When you stop rolling on the floor about that one, and after you catch your breath, let me ask; is it your contention that the thumb belonged to a man of normal height--with hands and fingers twice as big and twice as long as that of the average human?
I myself refuse to believe such nonsense. How could such a man even pick his nose?

1)I wrote it five years ago but it was held for moderation until now.
2)Good point! I'll get back to you in five years.
3)I've got to improve my typing speed!
4)It took five years for me to come up with a snappy comeback.
5)Has it been five years? It seemed more like 4 years and 11 months!
6)No, I didn't notice that it was five years ago.

Sorry, not correct.
Gigantopithecis is known from both jaws and teeth.
I can't get any images to reproduce here and its late, so I gave up trying.
Do a google image search and you'll find them.
Jaws can give a huge amount of information beyond that which you can get from just teeth. Just two examples:
First, the shape of the tooth rows in relation to one another, whether straight or hyperbolic, is very important.
Second, the width of the rear of the jaw, the area between the two ascending ramus (insert correct plural here) is important for determining where the spinal cord entered the cranium. That, in turn, helps to determine posture, whether bipedal or quadrupedal, or somewhere in between.
There is no equivalence here to Nebraska man, so any such comparisons are inappropriate.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Here you go Coyote.

You're welcome.

I hunt for the truth
I am the one Orgasmatron, the outstretched grasping hand
My image is of agony, my servants rape the land
Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain
Two thousand years of misery, of torture in my name
Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law
My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore.

Re: Giants??
I think that finding parts of the humerus, tibia and femur would be an even better indication for how big Giganto was.
For all we know Giganto could have been this 5 foot tall Ape with a head 4 times too large.

Long bones are nice for estimating stature.
But if you don't have long bones, it is safe to assume that a critter with a mandible about twice human size in all dimensions would be pretty large in any case.
And scientists work from the known to the unknown. Until there is a primate of some kind found with a cranium four times too large for the rest of the bones, scientists will assume the normal size, in relation to the bones which are known, to be a more accurate estimate.
We're picky that way.
So, unless you have some evidence for those "giants" I will continue to regard them as a myth. (Kind of like the Jolly Green Giant--very well known but entirely fictional).
To progress beyond "fictional" just produce a nice pile of bones. We'll do the rest.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Re: Giants??
Well... I am not a trained scientist, so as much as I would love to find a giant skeleton, I will leave that to the professionals...
I will just pull what I can from old science journals. I figure that science journals are a better source than the thousands of news articles that exist. But in the end this is all fiction, and cannot be considered evidence. I should just stop...
Then again, the bones from Castelnau are remarkably human looking... Look at the anterior crest on the tibia fragment...

What a genius.
Here are a few giants that have lived in modern times:
The Russian giant Johann Peturssen, 8 ft. 5 in. [thumb=200]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/Martyrs5/GiantPeturrson88-1.jpg[/thumb=200]
Robert Wadlow of Alton, Illinois; 8'11.
[thumb=200]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/Martyrs5/robert-wadlow-5.jpg[/thumb=200]
Jason Aason 8'11 in comparison to Shaquille O'Neal on the far left.
[thumb=200]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/Martyrs5/Shaq-Aasen.jpg[/thumb=200]
According to Jason's patient record and his death certificate from Mendocino State Hospital, he measured 9' 2" (279 cm). The giant goliath was 'six cubits and a span' (9'9). This man was comparable to him.
The Bible told the truth about giants. God's Word always tells the truth. It's the skeptics that have problems. They fail to believe what God says.
There are a number of sources for these pictures on the Internet. Just Google 'tallest men in the world'.

This giant of a skeleton was found in Utah. It's cranium was 2 inches thick in places.http://www.ancientamerican.com/
Zhang Jun-Cai, 7'11, with martial arts movie star Jackie Chan and friends.
[thumb=200]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/Martyrs5/giantwithJChan.jpg[/thumb=200]
Sultan Kosen of Turkey. 8'1.
