Re: commonality of causes....
I think I'm fairly certain about what I do believe. I believe in a metaphysical philosophy similar to Buddhism. I believe in spirits and unseen but palpable energies. I believe certain things about what the mind and consciousness are capable of. I believe that some paranormal phenomena are real and normal, and able to be investigated scientifically if it's gone about in the right way. I believe in synchronicity, and possibly in some kind of fate or destiny.
Thanks for the update LindaLou. Here's to hoping whatever ails you is identified and resolved before too long (aka get well soon!). If you know of any evidence, immaterial or otherwise, that the things you believe in are something above and beyond what is going on in your mind then by all means bring it here. If you find some later I hope you'll share it.
I guess we'll meet in another thread sometime.

Re: commonality of causes....
I think that if I discussed any of those phenomena in this thread, it could explode into a dozen different directions. And to be honest, my faith in the things I listed varies.
Straggler was wanting me to start a topic about scientific study of the paranormal. I have some evidence to present in such a thread but am not sure I could consistently contribute at the moment due to health. Still, it would be a popular thread. Is there any place on this forum apart from the coffee house where it might go? I'd start with Rupert Sheldrake's research, "Dogs that know when their owners are coming home." I was hoping I could enter into this in RAZD's pseudoskepticism thread but that thread is clearly meant for a discussion of theism and atheism.

I would be interested in that. No rush though.
And to be clear I think that there are many aspects of nature that remain unknown. Some of which may currently be attributed to supernatural causes. Some of which we may understand in objective terms one day and which are thus not supernatural at all at root.
But that is very very different from claims about things that are inherently supernatural and which can never ever be objectively known by their very nature. Things that effectively relate to the atheism vs theism/deism stuff going on in this thread and elsewhere.
Edited by Straggler, : A string of spelling mistakes corrected.

GWB's Presidential Hotline To God - Subjective Evidence?
In Smelling The Coffee: 2010 we have ended up talking about George W Bush's claim that God told him to invade Iraq.
Now let's assume that GWB genuinely believes this to be true. Personally I think GWB is a dangerous fanatic. But I don't doubt his religious conviction.
For those advocates of subjective evidence - Is GWB's claimed guidance from God an example of subjective evidence in favour of God's actual existence? Or not?
