I am known by friends and relatives as someone who loves and is immersed in classic American hardcore punk - Black Flag, the Freeze, Crucifux, Dead Kennedys, MDC, etc. I often wax nostalgic about how sad it was when punk died in 1985 etc.
But now and even back in the day I would listen to (and like a lot) of 70's and 80's AM stars such as Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Partridge Family, and other such bands (not cross-comparing those, just naming a few). Music that I was quite ashamed of liking and certainly denied thrice before the cock crowed back in, say, 1983. Now enough time has passed that such music has become classic (no longer "commercialized pop crap").
Doctor Bashir: "Of all the stories you told me, which were true and which weren't?"
Elim Garak: "My dear Doctor, they're all true"
Doctor Bashir: "Even the lies?"
Elim Garak: "Especially the lies"
