Hello everybody!
I'm new here and have read through several interesting threads.
I am a Christian and do believe God created "the Heavens and earth" - how He did this is open for debate.
Over the years, I have often thought about this whole Creation vs. Evolution debate and have come to two conclusions - 1. Man will never resolve this debate and 2. My beliefs won't change tomorrow if either is proven today.
I do have several questions on the topic and would love to engage in discussions to answer them.
In reading through several threads, I think its safe to say that some of you disagree with "creation". I'd like to start there and hopefully come to know/understand each others positions.
While I do believe that God created the earth, I am not convinced the earth is only 6-10,000 years old. Why is this? Several reasons but the most significant is - time doesn't matter to God ("a day is like 1,000 years and 1,000 years is like a day" 2 Peter 3:8), time really only matters to man. So did God take 6 days to create everything or 6,000 years? Doesn't matter, the only important piece of information is that God created everything.
On the other hand, the earth may very well be 6-10,000 years old. To those of you who think this is impossible (I'll give you the benefit of thinking polite thoughts), I'd like to pose this question;
If we are exploring whether or not God created earth, why then would we place any limits on such a power? If a God exists, and has at His disposal the power to create the entire universe, why would He be limited to only creating new rocks, new minerals, new crystals?
If God did create the universe, then He also authored the rules that apply to everything, including the rate at which carbon decays. Can we then conclude that if God does exist, that He does poses the power to create and the knowledge of the rules that apply, that it is possible the God created the universe 6-10,000 years ago that according to the rules is 6 billion years old?
In a sense, if J.R.R. Tolkien can write about Frodo Baggins and give Middle Earth such a vast and rich history, why can't God create Man and give the universe a vast and rich history?
Thanks for your time. I look forward to your responses.

Welcome to EvC
Welcome to EvC 3DSOC,
Thank you for proposing a new topic and adding to our diversity. Since you are new to EvC, I suggest that you carefully read the Forum Guidelines and familiarize yourself with the functions of EvC by using the Practice Makes Perfect Forum or posting in existing threads.
I'm not inclined to promote your proposed topic because it is too general. All you've really said is that if God created the world he can do it any way he wants. It would be better if you could provide evidence that God did do it the way you suggest. Also your title doesn't really give a clear idea of what the debate is about.
There are existing threads that discuss specific issues with creation. Join the debates that interest you.
Again welcome and fruitful debating. Purple

Re: Welcome to EvC
AdminPD,
Thanks for the reply and welcome.
The main theme I was trying to open up with my post was that many posts on the site dismiss the possibility of creation because science proves that the earth is more than 6-10,000 years old.
I will try again later.
