Re: Happy Birthday Charles Darwin!!!!
I was going to wish my 7th Day Adventist worker happy Darwin's Birthday but he would have likely been angry for a week at least.

The idea of the sacred is quite simply one of the most conservative notions in any culture, because it seeks to turn other ideas - uncertainty, progress, change - into crimes.
Salman Rushdie
This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us. - the character Rorschach in Watchmen

Re: Mitch Hedberg
For several years I would occasionally wonder, "What the heck happened to Mitch Hedberg?" then I found out a few months he was dead. So what the heck happened?

I heard he overdosed on cocaine and heroin maybe exacerbated by a heart condition.
ABE:
quote:
Death
Hedberg was known to be a drug user, referring to it in some of his jokes ("I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too"). Hedberg was arrested in Austin, Texas, in May 2003 for possession of heroin.[1] On March 30, 2005, Hedberg was found dead in a hotel room in Livingston, New Jersey.[10] Hedberg was born with a heart defect for which he received extensive treatment as a child.[1][11] It was initially speculated that this condition may have played a part in his death. The New Jersey medical examiner's office reported "multiple drug toxicity", in the form of a cocaine and heroin "speedball", as the official cause of death.[1] His funeral was held at St. Ambrose of Woodbury Church in Minnesota.

Re: Mitch Hedberg
So what the heck happened?
Like CS's link shows, he was allegedly "speedballing" and OD'd. I've seen his widow around at clubs (she still performs) and she said he was just depressed at the time, club owners were getting upset with him for being intoxicated on stage and he was having trouble getting rebooked. Plus the arrest and other charges affected him too. He was mentally not well.
I heard from several club owners that on more than a few occasions he would be so drunk he would just lay down on stage and mubble his set. Which, if you've seen Mitch before, he kinda mubbles anyway. Colleges was the only thing keeping him in the mainstream, plus his appreance on That 70's Show and in the movie Lords of Dog Town also gaving appeal to a college crowd.
He was a cool cool guy, and you'll hear that from anyone who has meet or worked with him. It really hit the comedy world hard when he passed away. When someone that nice and that humble of a person is lost it really sucks for a while.

Congrats, Oh Fearless Leader.
Even though you may be a youngun you must be prematurely gray from running this shop!
Thank you.

Compared to you, maybe. But some of us ...
let's just say we've "seen a lot."

Thanks, everyone!
My grandson thinks I'm very old, but it ain't so, though I posted this back in 2003 when Caligula mentioned his girlfriend's upcoming 17th birthday:

I still remember the last time I celebrated a girlfriend's 17th birthday. I gave her a necklace of saber tooth tiger teeth, and we rode mastodons in the park.
Having a wonderful day so far!

Strag,
A gorilla-gram has been sent to your office to wish you a happy birthday. Warning, it may be wearing provocative safari-wear.
Err Straggler, . . . please control yourself.
