Ahh yes, the one month every 4 years when Americans pretend to care about soccer.
Heh, too true... A major factor, I think, is that no stations cover football (soccer) in which to watch it. I think that partly attributes to the lack of fanfare in America.
Most sports bore me to watch, but I love playing most all of them. The only sport I actually watch with religious conviction is MMA. Everything else? Eh... I'll just catch the highlights on Sports Center.

Americans will only enjoy what they get expossed to on a regular basis. Who knew we would love to watch Jersey douchebags punch women in the face so much? Be we do! Season 2 is Miami baby!
Are you sure? I was in the dentists office yesterday and I saw an ad explaining how it was going to be in the Boston area. The title was "Wicked Summah." How appropriate. I can't stand this New England accent. It drives me nuts.
MLS tried to change this by adding more breaks in the game to allow advertisers air time. Which in my opinion is pathetic that American TV has to go that route, while the rest of the world can go an hour and a half without 100 commercials.
I hate commercials with a passion. As soon as a commercial break comes on I change channels. But I swear they try and take commercial breaks at the exact same time on every channel. Assholes...

Australia needs to harden the fuck up

Really!?! I thought it just showed how overrated England is.
England isn't overrated overall, but I do think Team USA is underrated. Even still, they won because they're goalie sucks balls. The rest of the team is very good.
I didn't even know the USA had a soccer team, I mean its soccer, who the hell cares, isn't that sport for girls anyway?
Thems fighting words on this board. Lot's of Europeans. Let's try and not sound like a typical, arrogant American.
And, yes, I would say the opposite if someone was ripping on American football or basketball.

Swiss take down the Spaniards 1-0.
Hell yeah! Love hearing that. First of all, the Spaniards are top contenders. Secondly, I have a strong affection for Switzerland.
Very good news.

Soccer is soccer. It is NOT football! It can hardly even be called a sport. This is another one of those instances where the damn foreigners in this world will just have to bow to the intellectual superiority of the American race. Damn foreigners. Absurd.
God, I hope this is satire...

Missed the game
So what happened that it should've been 3-2?

Re: Missed the game
Thanks, Mod. So let me get this straight, because Bradley was fouled just before the shot was made, the US was robbed of the point?
Did they at least get a penalty kick for their troubles???

The standings
The teams kicking the most ass are Argentina, the Netherlands, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.
Teams staying alive convincingly are Portugal, England, United States, and Paraguay.
The biggest shockers so far are the lackluster, if not disgraceful, performances of the French and Germans (ordinarily two powerhouses).
And the worst team in the history of the sport goes to North Korea, whose goalkeeper, I am convinced, will be promptly executed (if he hasn't been already).

Re: Soccer at its best
Nazis are taboo here as well, and there are Americans who prance about waving swastikas.
You would never see a Nazi Swastika at any major sport event in the United States. We have neo-nazi's, but they are generally driven far underground to rural places. To be at a mainstream sport behaving that way would be suicide.

Re: Soccer at its best
there is a link between football hooliganism and the far right.
Yeah, I'll buy that. All right, so which club has the most notoriously insane hooligans in all of Europe? I want a death toll or some shit.

Re: Soccer at its best
The most notorious are definitely from Turkey and Russia.
Well, their national teams aren't so great, so I guess it's good that their fans are good at something
Thanks Caffeine, that was very thorough.

Calling all Canadians
I'm just wondering if Football (Soccer) is about as popular there as it is in the US. It seems to have the same lacking fanbase. Can someone confirm that?
And also, do Canadians refer to the sport as soccer or football? I would imagine soccer, because you guys have your own Canadian Football League.
