Private Messaging Bug Found and Fixed
I just discovered a private messaging bug. It is already fixed.
If you sent anyone a *new* PM after June 2 then it did not get through. New PM's late in the day on June 2 probably didn't get through, either. If you thought someone was ignoring you, they weren't. They never got your message.
Replies and forwards were not affected. The bug only affected *new* PM messages.
I apologize for causing this problem. The software for EvC has gotten big, and I try to test as much as I can before posting an update, but things slip through anyway.

Problems Posting with Win7/IE8
I just sent you an email on this, because I haven't been able to bring this to your attention through the forum:
quote:
I am unable to post any messages or to edit my existing message. Whenever I click on the Preview or Submit button, I get an error page that says: "Error: Dispatch table lookup failure, control does not exist: "
It was working last night, but hasn't worked since I first logged in this morning around 11 AM PDT. I see that others are able to post messages.
I'm using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8.
DWise1
Since others are obviously still able to post, I fired up Ubuntu and logged in via FireFox. That does work.

Re: Problems Posting with Win7/IE8
Hi Dwise1,
Thanks for reporting the problem. Others also reported it via email, and I was able to find and fix it a few minutes ago. Evidently I introduced a bug affecting Internet Explorer and Safari earlier this morning. Could you go back to IE and verify it's fixed? Thanks!
I've had a good day if I'm measured on the number of bugs introduced. Hopefully the number of bugs fixed now equals the number added.

Re: Problems Posting with Win7/IE8
I just tried to reply via IE8. Still broken.
I'm a software engineer, primarily embedded. I understand what you're going through.

Re: Problems Posting with Win7/IE8
I forgot to mention, you have to click "refresh" or "reload" first. I released a new version of Javascript, and most browsers don't reload it when going from page to page. Does that do it?

Lemme see.
Yes, that did it for replying.
Also for previewing.
Looks like that's got it. Thanks!

I don't get it. What's the point of swap?

Purpose of "swap"
It only has purpose if you have linked ID's, which the various admins do have. Clicking on the "swap" toggles the log in ID from one ID to the other. As I understand it, the only place this is really needed is dealing with personal messages. To do or read a Minnemooseus PM, I must be logged in as Minnemooseus. Likewise for Adminnemooseus PM's.
For replying to forum messages, the logged in ID is the default, but the alternate ID can be chosen at the message creation page. An exception is an admin replying to a "Proposed New Topics" message, where the non-admin ID is blocked and the default is the admin ID.
What happens when a non-admin clicks on "swap"? I don't know - Is it even a clickable link for non-admins?

Re: Purpose of "swap"

It takes me to the "All Topics" page. Yes, it is clickable.
I don't actually see a point to having that link visible, except perhaps to people with linked accounts.

Swap Link
Hi Taz!
Thanks for reporting this bug. It should be fixed now.
The swap link was intended to only be visible for members with linked accounts. Here at EvC we link the normal and admin accounts of moderators so that they can more easily carry out their moderator responsibilities. For instance, when a member with linked accounts posts a message, there's a pair of radio buttons for them to select from so they can select which account the message should be from. Similar thing on the profile page. I wanted to do this for private messaging, too, but ran out time, but it'll get there eventually.

Individual topic message index page
We used to be able to click on the "topic mood" icon and get a topic message index page. You promised that such would return.
Call it a "bump".

Re: Individual topic message index page
I hear and obey, but not right away.
I have to make the page work with the new ability to acknowledge that you've seen a message. This means the page has to be redesigned and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Impacting the schedule is I'm just now recovered from a sports injury that kept me sidelined the past month, and the return to activity reduces my spare time. If I were to guess I'd say it could happen within a couple months. If only I didn't need to keep my day job...
Please keep reminding me, especially the week of July 4th which I have off.

Cleanup Release Today
In a few minutes I'll be releasing some code that cleans up a large number of niggling minor stuff. I am going to keep the board open during this period, but until I complete some adjustments to the database the board might appear to be broken or severely dysfunctional. Please bear with me, it shouldn't take long.
