Swiss take down the Spaniards 1-0.
Hell yeah! Love hearing that. First of all, the Spaniards are top contenders. Secondly, I have a strong affection for Switzerland.
Very good news.

Soccer is soccer. It is NOT football! It can hardly even be called a sport. This is another one of those instances where the damn foreigners in this world will just have to bow to the intellectual superiority of the American race. Damn foreigners. Absurd.
God, I hope this is satire...

The main reason soccer isn't televised the way baseball, basketball and football are shown is because soccer plays none stop for 45 min, no breaks. Which means, no commercial breaks. Which means advertisers can't shove Mc Donalds and Nike down your throat every 5 minutes. If advertisers can't advertise, it won't get shown on TV. Period.
MLS tried to change this by adding more breaks in the game to allow advertisers air time. Which in my opinion is pathetic that American TV has to go that route, while the rest of the world can go an hour and a half without 100 commercials.

A major factor, I think, is that no stations cover football (soccer) in which to watch it. I think that partly attributes to the lack of fanfare in America.
Americans will only enjoy what they get expossed to on a regular basis. Who knew we would love to watch Jersey douchebags punch women in the face so much? Be we do! Season 2 is Miami baby!

NASCAR is continuous, for hours, unless there is a wreck. It manages to be televised, AND have commercials. I think its just because soccer is not that great. Besides if we want to watch a sport with a bunch of moving around and not much scoring, we will watch Hockey.

No its definitely a sport, but like Curling I am not interested in it. Call it whatever you want. I was just surprised at the score of a game, that the US had a team, and that anyone really gave a shit.
Let's hope we meet again later in the tournament, and we can teach you infidels a lesson!
Lulz; yeah sure whatever. Who cares? If its such a big deal to y’all, I hope you win then.
England isn't overrated overall, but I do think Team USA is underrated. Even still, they won because they're goalie sucks balls. The rest of the team is very good.
I could be wrong (it happens); when is the last time they won? How many times have they won?
Thems fighting words on this board. Lot's of Europeans. Let's try and not sound like a typical, arrogant American.
Oh yeah because everyone is so kind and civil to each other around here. The fact that you assume typical Americans are arrogant, says a lot about how you feel about your country. BTW our Girls Soccer team does a lot better than our men’s Soccer, so calling the Soccer a girls sport from my perspective is not derogatory. It would only be derogatory for macho guys who think poorly of women, and their ability to perform in sports.
God, I hope this is satire...
This is truly funny. The assumption that my negative posts about Soccer are genuine, and this person’s are satire.

Hey, that's right! And in soccer you could break for 80% of the game and still come back to a 0-0 score. You could have 5 minutes of game then 20 minutes of car and lawyer commercials and not miss a thing. Kinda like late night shows.

lol that is right. You could also just watch the highlights on your favorite highlights show, and not miss anything either. Though if you wanted to watch a lot of soccer there is always Telemundo, and Univision.

You run up and down the field with the ball going willy-nilly all over the place for 90 damn minutes and end up with an aggregate score of 0. Nothing. Nada.
Can you really not see the beauty in a 0-0 result? After months of pre-tournament hype, concerns over injuries to key players, weeks of intensive training at altitude, players and fans travelling halfway around the world; how tedious would it be if all that ended in something as crass as watching some goals being scored, rather than a glorious sense of deflation?

Yes. I cannot see any beauty in a sport where scoring is apparently not allowed.

I have already experienced maximal deflation for a period of years. I was married.

I'm sorry to hear about your marriage, but pleased you can console yourself playing with your odd-shaped balls.

I appreciate your sympathy. Thank you for that. And yes, I did get to keep my balls ... all 5 of them.
Back to OP:
I note that Uruguay made 3 goals on South Africa. SA apparently played the game well as they did not score any goals. Uruguay erred in scoring. Three times. Is there a penalty in ranking for having violated the rules? Are they eliminated from the competition?

It sounds like you're beginning to take an interest in the tournament after all!
I'll let you know how I think the rules should be interpreted after England's next match tomorrow.

Yeah why even play at all? And getting points for tying, seems like the Special Olympics to me well you came and you tried, everyone is a winner here, YAY!
