Why Ratings Are Not Objective.

I do think the current member message rating system is deeply flawed and not to be taken too seriously.That said, I do have some curiosity about what my current "4" member rating is based upon. But I am unable to track down any of my messages that have received a rating.Could there be some sort of search function to track down rated messages?Moose

You may have noticed that your rating has plummeted. This is because of me (sorry). I rated about ten of your messages in a mini version of one of Petrophysics's campaigns of personal hatred to see what would happen. This is just blatantly untrue. The more you are continuously rated by one person the more that one persons vote counts. Blatantly.

I feel better now. Most of my messages are too lame for me to be carrying a "4" rating. Actually, I suspect that I've had so few messages rated that one "1" was all it took to drop a "4" to a "2.2".By the way, should you be messing with someone who can arrange for your status to be changed from "member" to "suspended member"? Hi, Straggler. The way Percy explained it, each individual only gets one vote on a person's rating, which is the average of all the ratings that individual gave to the person.So, in order for your continual adding of "1"s to make a difference, you must have once rated a Moose message high, and each successive "1" brings down the average of your ratings.

Nope. It took all 10. I watched it go down successively and wondered if there would come a point of having no effect. That point didn't come. I just got bored. Never been suspended yet and would hate for it to occur over something done in the spirit of experimentation. Also I figured you admins could just wipe out the results of my experiment anyway. It is. Petrophysics has gone through and 1 rated every single post of some members (Phage and Bluegenes amongst others) in a given thread. He must have rated hundreds of messages at a time. Or at least it was. I see it has changed. So not sure what is going on now. But at least I can die happy with my new elevated status

I don't think I had ever rated Moose until my mini campaign of experimental 1 ratings. And each 1 rating I gave him had a significant effect.So I am unconvinced that is how it actually works. But who knows. Bring on the new all singing all dancing AI system that actually gives you verbal feedback (in a Hawking style robot voice) as you write is all I can say.In Hawking robot voice: **This post sucks. Thanks for finding this. I must have broken it in the last release. Should be a simple fix.

Member ratings are updated only when someone rates one of their messages. Could you try rating a few more of Moose's messages? The first one should assign him the correct rating, subsequent ones shouldn't change that rating at all, assuming you continue assigning him 1's.--PercyEdited by Admin, : No reason given.

Well I have rated an additional 9 of Moose's posts with 1s (sorry again Moose!) and this appears to have had no effect whatsoever on his member rating which remains a solid 4.I am not sure if that is as intended or not..
