Re: Missed the game
Thanks, Mod. So let me get this straight, because Bradley was fouled just before the shot was made, the US was robbed of the point?
Did they at least get a penalty kick for their troubles???
This is real football. If you look up the rules you will note that 'the USA is not allowed to win the world cup...ever' is in there. So, in accordance with the rules - no penalty was awarded.

And another win
Yep. we did it again. Two wins for The Netherlands so far.
Yes, the actual game sucked balls, but hey, at least we got the result.

Re: 90 minutes I won't get back...
I have never seen England play so badly. No stand out individual performances, a complete inability to play as a team and no even faint glimmers of hope.
Terrible.

Re: 90 minutes I won't get back...
The only football my 7-year-old daughter has watched so far in her life has been the 2 England World Cup games. She's been allowed to stay up late, and she made some paper flags.
I have had to explain to her what it's like to watch a good game where people play well and score goals. Guess we'd better wait til Brazil or Argentina are on next . . .

A doctor wants to give out 30,000 anti-rape devices in South Africa
By David Cairns
LAST UPDATED 3:19 PM, APRIL 28, 2010
ShareA South African inventor is seeking international donations so she can distribute 30,000 barbed condoms designed to thwart rapists ahead of the World Cup, to be held in South Africa in June.
Dr Sonnet Ehlers encountered fierce criticism from feminist groups when she first developed the 'Rape-aXe' anti-rape device five years ago and has not yet managed to bring her pet project into commercial production. It has never been tested on a live subject.
The Rape-aXe, as reported in the First Post in 2007 when it was called Rapex, looks like a thick condom — transparent, with rows of barbed teeth on its inside surface. Ehlers describes it as looking like a tampon, complete with applicator. It is intended that a woman would insert it into her vagina, where Ehlers says it sits, "very comfortable, very soft — she won't feel it".
If a woman wearing a Rape-aXe is raped, Ehlers believes, the device will latch onto the assailant's penis. She expects a would-be rapist to withdraw immediately in pain and surprise, taking the barbed condom with him like a sort of tag. Critically in a country with an HIV infection rate of almost 18 per cent among adults, Ehlers does not want her barbs to draw blood. She explains: "The hooks penetrate through the skin [but] do not go into the spongy tissue."
The Rape-aXe will now be latched onto the penis and can only be safely removed by a doctor. Speaking to Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) this month, the inventor said that, as the rapist reels with surprise, there should be an opportunity for his victim to "jump up and run".
Ehlers describes the assailant's subsequent plight: "He cannot run after you... [The Rape-aXe] attached to the penis during erection,

Italy -1 New Zealand -1
Wow, few things are more frustrating than being a fan of Italian World Cup Soccer. Take your hats off to New Zealand, though; Predicted to lie down against the defending champs, they played admirably.
And to think that Italy only scored on a questionable call in the box that resulted in a penalty kick...

Re: Italy -1 New Zealand -1
Great game to watch - awesome defending on the part of New Zealand and I thought Peston was great in goal. *Very* dubious reason for the penalty, but then the NZ goal was equally dubious (although excellent) for its own reasons
And I was thoroughly entertained watching Cameroon last night - spirited match and I think they can be proud of themselves despite being knocked out.
These great games just make the England debacles all the more unbearbale...

Re: Goal keepers are supposed to STOP the ball...
Don't worry Straggler, I'm sure England will bounce back and make it to the top 16
Hah!
Having steadfastly held the mighty Algerians to a 0-0 draw we have achieved the unimaginable feat of still being in with a shout of progressing in the tournament.
The players may be rebelling.
The fans are definitely revolting (England fans are not the most hygienic).
The Italian management staff have their St George's flags out and their patriotic backs to the wall.
It is all set for a David and Goliath style confrontation between the plucky underdogs that are English football team and that marauding horde that is the over-hyped, over-paid giant of international "soccer" - SLOVENIA.
Bring it on.........
Stay tune for more shit talking....
After Wednesday I may renounce all interest in this world cup and become a Miami Dolphins fan or something.

Be glad you don't have the French team, I'm French and quite ashamed of my team. I don't know which team will win this cup but if we had to designate one loser, it would be the French.

Oh I wake up every morning and am delighted not to be French
Only kiddin. I love the French (well except the sulky footballers..and the waiters...and Parisians...and the politicians....and.........)

I could designate many. Germany probably being number one. The French don't need my help as they are perfectly capable of imploding without any psychic vibes from me.

If England produce another "performance" like the one against Algeria, the players should be made to wear these.
Or better still, make them wear them during the next game; it might make them run around a bit more lively.

Can I swipe your idea and patent it as The Ultimate Motivator For Athletes? If it works, I'll buy my own island with it.
PS - Who else really feel sorry for North Korea? Lost to Portugal by... drum roll... 7 goals.

Fish Stink
After Wednesday I may renounce all interest in this world cup and become a Miami Dolphins fan or something.
There are more viable alternatives to the stinky florida fish. The vaunted Cowboys for instance.
While we have no great need to proselytize for our fan base we do want to offer you the best there is in an object deserving of your fandom. Should you decide to make a change in your sporting allegiance there are certain incentives we can offer in exchange for your support.
We can offer you game day tickets at half the going scalp rate at the gate. We can offer you whatever Cowboys memorabilia you may desire from caps, pennants and jerseys to wall clocks, underwear and plant hangers all at the most reasonable semi-quality knock-off prices imaginable. We can even offer you cheap private visitation with some of the most available rejected Cowgirl wannabees from anywhere in the world.
Give it some thought before you decide. We know you have choices and we appreciate this opportunity to present our offer to you. We hope you will consider our offer and we look forward to your future support. Remember the Silver and Blue and that fish is for Fridays.
DISCLAIMER: AZPaul3 Cowboys Fandom Enterprises is not associated with the Dallas Cowboys Football Organization, Jerry Jones Enterprises, AZPaul3 or the National Football League in any way. Offer is void where prohibited by law or common sense or in any jurisdiction where promissory default may be actionable as a tort liability.
Edited by AZPaul3, : added usual and customary disclaimer as required.

No, the referee blew for a different foul by a US player. Who is supposed to have committed it is not clear, as it wasn't evident to anybody except the ref.
