I totally agree that Bruno wasn't nearly as funny as Borat. It was a very weak and contrived attempt to cash in on the Borat success, and it's hard to laugh at a character you can't like at all.I think most British people see cheerleaders as ridiculous and very camp, and I think that was part of the point he was making, aside from the obvious sexism. However, I take the points made about American sports culture and tradition. God knows we have enough ridiculous and camp traditions of our own. We're now having to endure all the bowing and curtseying to royalty at Wimbledon. Personally, I'd love to see Bruno in there in a ball girl uniform (not for that reason!), but I guess that wouldn't go down well with a lot of tennis fans. Or then again, who knows? If a bird lands on Centre Court, most tennis fans laugh their heads off as if it's the most hilarious moment of all time.

The most notorious are definitely from Turkey and Russia. Galatasaray are the most famous Turkish team for hooliganism in Britain, but that's because a few English fans have been stabbed during away games with Galatasaray - not sure if they're actually the worst. In Russia it doesn't seem to matter which club - hooliganism and football go hand in hand.Some Yugoslavian clubs are a bit notorious as well, because it all ties in with the ethnic tensions there. The Belgrade clubs all have reputations for far-right nationalist supporters who ar up for a good scrap with foreigns, Jew clubs and teams from the semi-autonomous north (as well as each other).Hooliganism in England has died down a lot nowadays, but there are still a few clubs in Britain with dangerous reputations. I don't know if it's true, but I remember being told that at least one person gets stabbed, on average, in connection with every Old Firm derby (that's Glasgow Celtic v. Glasgow Rangers). Why not have a bunch of scantily clad men, gay or straight, leading the cheering for their team?But from what you and Oni have said, I accept the fact that, although they may appear ridiculous to my eyes and ripe for making fun of, I understand that they are obviously an integral part of American sports culture, and that may explain, at least in part, why the crowd was so upset.

I'm just wondering if Football (Soccer) is about as popular there as it is in the US. It seems to have the same lacking fanbase. Can someone confirm that?And also, do Canadians refer to the sport as soccer or football? I would imagine soccer, because you guys have your own Canadian Football League.

Canada airs the matches for free for its citizens, so I'm guessing it is a lot more popular there. In fact, the US is the only country in the world that doesn't air the matches for free. You either have to watch online at espn3, buy cable, or only catch 6 games on abc. This is an embarrassment!I've been watching the matches on espn3.
