Whoooah! Hold your horses cowboy!!
You may be more godly than I on pure wazz factor. But that doesn't mean you are the "one true god".
You are the Zeus to my Apollo. That is all.
First order of business, US is back in the Cup. England is still out.
As the god of football (not fucking soccer) I get to make that call.
You are too busy trying to shag mortals to deal wit the real issues.

My guess is that they've given up on this universe as a bad job, and wish to completely disassociate themselves from the whole embarrassing fiasco.

I would if I could but this omnipotence lark just isn't all it is cracked up to be.
There are so many rules and regulations.
The forms that need to be filled in for a cosmological transfer alone are enough to deistically decline.

I made up a whole pantheon for my D&D game back in the day; they all had spheres of interest and enemies and allies. They where a really interesting bunch: but then interest waned and they fell out of favour.
We stopped paying so much interest (needs of the campaign and all that) to the panteon and their influence dimmed.
It got to a point where one of my players said "we don't bother with gods these days, do we?".
"It's too much bother for me to keep up with" I replied.
We never really bothered with them again.

Good stuff.
Let's hope someday we live in a world where everyone can afford not to be bothered.

You think I wasn't once a jumped up chimpette, thinking I was the coolest swinger in the trees.
Been there, got the T shirt.
Put the gun down, Hairy. It's not big and it's not clever. Let Baldy play with his toys; we're better than that.

Where are all the gods?
Why is there not a single god knocking about today?
Not one. Out of all the thousands.
Don’t tell me they’re doing important work behind the scenes, unsung heroes and all that. You know, and I know, that they love all the Glory.
We’ve had cameras for nearly 200 years now, and movies for over 100 years. We have 24/7 global media. Why are they all wasting this fantastic photo opportunity? Just think of the sort of figure they could command from Hello magazine.
They could even have their own ring tones.
WHERE ARE YOU, GODS?
YOU REALLY DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE MISSING!
Well, at least the Moderator made this one a Coffee House thread. We're getting there....I guess.
I think the next time you post something of comparatively equal (or more) stupidity, it'll probably end up in the Humor V thread.....along with the rest of the stupidity.
The "pleasures" of debating on a atheist forum...merciful heavens.

Therefore, if it is true that he appeared before, it is true that he can prove his own existence. And with ease.
So why not appear now?
Well first off, nothing is ever really proven.
Secondly, when He last appeared, He said to believe in Him by faith.
Even if you experience a miracle, there is always another explanation it seems. So it seems to me God set up the current situation so that we have to have faith to some degree. Even if He appeared to you in the middle of the night, the distinct possibility remains that you would deny it in the morning, and explain it away. You would be just like the Jews in the desert who forgot all the things God did for them. I think it is because of people like that (myself included) that He may have changed things around a bit.
Asking Christians why God doesn't prove His existence, is the biggest hypocritical comment for an atheist to say.
When people say that, they sound like pre-programmed robots from college.
Will the sun rise tomorrow?

Why is it stupid to ask why there are no gods around today?
It seems to me an even more obvious question to ask if you do believe in them than if you don't.

Why would he appear in the middle of the night, when you're most likely alone and in a sleepy, dreamy state? What's he trying to do anyway, scare you the Hell out of you? (That would make sense, I suppose.)
Why not appear in the daylight in front of large crowds?
And why not hang around? At least stay for a coffee. Why can he only appear for only a few seconds? Who makes these rules up?
"Oh! I saw this bright light sort of thing and it spoke to me, but then it was gone again. Could have been God, but then it could be something to do with spraying anti-perspirant under my eyelids again."
Why did Jesus float away after he rose from the dead? Why isn't he still around doing good deeds and stuff?
