Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
In message 200, Hyro admits/concedes
What would you like to see done in light of this? I apologized then, I apologize now, as NJ I opted (of my own volition) to not engage in topics concerning homosexuality thereafter, and now have changed my views concerning homosexuality.
I don't have a time machine, I can't afford one yet so I cannot undue the past. I don't know what your motivation is at this point. What exactly is the point you are trying to make?

Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
Hey Hyro,
It may seem like I am picking on you. But, in fact the topic is about whether Mod or any moderator could have done better. If so, what can be done differently next time?
But before we can come to any conclusion, we first have to reconstruct the "crime". You have been a star witness. Seriously, thanks for helping us. But, it appears some members of the jury are still unconvinced with the testamony/evidence so far. And IF we have a hung jury, then alas, we can't suggest a better course for the moderators to take next time.
I noted your message 230 below. I generally agree. Thank you:
It depends upon the content and the infraction. It also depends on whether or not the individual is being personal.
Again, thanks for being a good sport about this. Also, by Mod creating this thread, (and potentially putting his head in the noose) he should get credit for trying to improve the forum.

No problem. I think because I'm too close in this, I'd better sit this one out and just watch. Just let my attorney know if I'm called to the stand, and then I'll testify

After crapping all over your otherwise interesting Gender/Humour thread - I guess I owe you an apology anyway.
However your question:
quote:
Did NJ relentlessly pursue a point with a gay member on a controversial topic in language that the member in question clearly found deeply offensive?
can be answered I think. I just looked through all the gay threads from the era that NJ and Berb co-existed. I may have missed some since topics may not have been reflected by their titles. Here is what I found
Oh my God, I'm an Atheist !! Berberry responded to NJ, and NJ did not respond.
Jerry Falwell dead. Berb responded to NJ
Immorality of Homosexuality NJ did not respond to Berb.
Discrimination against homosexuals carried into the 21st century NJ did not respond to Berb
Haggard thread #2 NJ did respond to Berb. There was an exchange, Berb started calling NJ names. NJ stopped responding.
Haggard Scandal Berb responded to NJ
So no - I don't think, based on that evidence, that NJ 'relentlessly' pursued berberry.

Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
Are you saying that if some one admits to "gay-baiting," he isn't necessarily using offensive language?
Sure - he may be using euphamistic language but offensive content. And just because the content is deemed offensive by some, does not mean that it should not be discussed and requires moderator intervention.

Ok, cool. I had t-shirst made for us.
I didn't have to reveal myself, I just felt like maybe I should.
Dude, if it would have been me I'd be DYING to say something. I'm sure it ate at you, probably wanted to say it a half-dozen times in debate?
My main concern is Buzsaw, ironically enough. I feel like a wayward teenager letting down his dad. It's that kind of terrible feeling.
Buz? Why would you let Buz down? Did he train you for debate?

I agree.
The original complaint by Berberry was more about NJ's presumption of moral superiority and the fact that my Admin Msg was attached to his post. They also didn't like the idea that I considered their line of discussion off topic.
I don't feel that foul language belongs in the Faith and Belief Forum.
The Coffee House or Free For All is another matter.

Buz liked NJ, and his stances on stuff a lot. He considered him somewhat of a like minded spirit, I think.
And now look what NJ's become!

Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
I agree with your second sentence:
And just because the content is deemed offensive by some, does not mean that it should not be discussed and requires moderator intervention.
but . . .
offensive "euphemistic language" as opposed to "gay-baiting" language?
Hmmm.
You have me nearly nodding my head in agreement, but I am still imagining potentially unclear, grey regions.
Can you supply a clear example of each?

Probably, but it will have to wait as my pint is on the bar, and I'm still 50yds away in the office...

Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
Hey Mod,
Unless, as you say, Crash or someone else can include additional sources, from the links you gave and I perused, then no, it appears the word "relentless" is not applicable.
Anyways, thanks for your on-topic contributions to "Gender and Humor". I just wish we had more females on the forum to participate on that particular thread. I still find the subject rather interesting.

Wud up, Drone...
Anyways, thanks for your on-topic contributions to "Gender and Humor". I just wish we had more females on the forum to participate on that particular thread. I still find the subject rather interesting.
A comic friend of mine who's married to a female comic is currently in production for a (hopefully) theatrically released movie about this very subject. I think they are editting it now and will be submitting it to festivals sometime at the end of the year. It has all the greats giving their opinion and the movie follows them (my friend and his wife and daughter) around as they do shows, travel, etc.
Should be released sometime next year...if the thread can wait till then.

Re: What is the conclusion (Part B)?
In answer to the more general question being asked - we have indefinitely suspended people for gay-baiting since that debacle:
Message 9
quote:
You were requested to avoid gay topics because you're a gay-baiter/instigator. We took a vote a few weeks ago in the admin forum that came out 3-0 for permanent suspension for you, and I held off because it wasn't 4-0. Because you are again attempting to raise gay issues I'm suspending you indefinitely.
