Re: You want a list?
Country bars are fun and the women in tight jeans are always a nice sight.
I find it difficult to stare at women in tight jeans while my ears are bleeding.
Besides - I typically can't stand the people who listen to country music for more than short periods anyway. The word "y'all," which isn;t even really a word so much as an example of the rape of the English language perpetrated in the South, makes me cringe. I roll my eyes at both cowboy hats and boots. Giant belt buckles instantly cap my estimation of a person's intelligence at an IQ of about 80, just this side of mentally handicapped.
Clearly, I'm also not a fan of Westerns.
EDIT
The chicks you find listening to goth/metal music are both far more interesting and far more attractive. Give me dark (or unnaturally colored) hair, pale skin, tattoos and piercings, please!

Roll away!
I wear a Stetson whenever I leave the house, and own nothing but boots: barn boots, mud boots, dress boots, and hiking boots (ok, I have fuzzy slippers too).

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

If Toby Keith was here he'd tell you to shut your queer mouth, do a shot, drink a beer and stop with the judgmental liberal talk.
I guess I just don't really care where I drink that much - dive bars, country bars, I don't care. People suck everywhere.

You'd die over the chic I'm dating now. She used to manage bands (for big labels) and is a sick drummer herself. Sick! Straight, jet black hair, tats, piercings...oh yeah! Her Valetine's gift to me was a tat (finishing a piece on my arm). My gift to her was Dropkick Murphy tickets, lol.
But man, fuck, ain't nothing like those southern bells in daisy dukes though.
I like a broader spectrum I guess.

Every time I think about the stigma with which the chronic is abused day in and day out, I get sick. If it's fine for cancer patients, then WTF?????
Slowly there has been a legitimate change in the social opinion of marijuana. Soon, very soon, it'll be legal and I won't have to feel like a criminal anymore. Till then... I'm an outlaw baby! Lol

If Toby Keith were here there's an even chance I would spit out a long and venomous tirade regarding his pathetically overzealous patriotism. The "America, Fuck Yeah" brigade of kicking ass and taking names, while emotionally energizing, has gotten this country into more trouble than perhaps anything else.
I guess I just don't really care where I drink that much - dive bars, country bars, I don't care. People suck everywhere.
People sucking is generally why I don't like bars

I have a pretty broad spectrum myself - though I certainly prefer dark or wild-colored hair, my "type" is really just any woman with a good brain, proportionate features, and a kinky streak a mile and a half wide If she happens to be blonde, blue-eyed, and likes daisy dukes, I'm all for it...
...as long as she doesn't try to play Toby Keith.

Re: Afro Cuban anyone?
Thanks Oni, some great stuff there! I particularly like the Afro-Cuban All Stars, Ruben Gonzales is pretty amazing. Great playing. It's also really nice to see someone of his age still playing.
Wud up Granny,
I heard some afro/cuban music recently that I hadn't heard before and I remembered that you enjoyed it. I came back on this thread and found that I didn't reply to this post.
Anywhoo..
Check out El Guayabero de Cuba. Another older dude of Ruben's age still cranking out the tunes.
On a similar note, I went to see Barry Cryer last night as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival. At 74 Barry is one of the UK's longest running stand-up comics. It's nice to know that a performer isn't doing the gig for the money or to further their career; Barry doesn't need any of that. He's still performing purely because he loves it and it shows. Same thing with guys like Ruben Gonzales; you get a really genuine performance.
That's super cool. It's great to see pure passion even after decades of work.
Btw, for you and the rest of the UK gang. I'm putting a DVD together to submit to a new booker (my old contact fell through) that books comedy clubs out in the UK. So hopefully in the near future I'll have some dates and locations for you guys.
You've probably heard this, but just in case, here's BVSC's Ibrihim Ferrer from the first Gorillaz album.
Yeah but it's still sick to hear again!

Cheers for that Oni! Another good one. Plus I love that guy's hat. It takes aplomb to pull off a straw boater.

That sounds great, I hope it comes through for you. It would be a good move for you I think. A lot of US artists of one sort or another have found breakthrough success in the UK. Reginald D Hunter springs to mind from the current crop. I mean, if it's good enough for Hicks and Hendrix...

Oh you're welcome, dude. Those old guajiro's from the old school are proud (stubborn like my dad) men who got swagger! Haha...
Btw I had to look up "aplomb" so you taught me a new word.

Yeah I think its a great experience and good growth for my material. It seems like it would allow me a lot more freedom to experiment with material that I only do at coffeshops and dive bars. Sometimes certain US audiences (the one's that pay) like the more generic, conventional material. So you have to work within that margin. In most cases comics have to dumb it down a lot.
Until you're performing to just your fans, but that comes much later for comics.
I mean, if it's good enough for Hicks and Hendrix...
Yeah and I've already lived longer than them so their curse won't get me.

Yeah, I think you're right. There's a lot of freedom in stand-up here. There aren't many taboo subjects, all people care about is if you're funny. Even someone like Frankie Boyle, who delights in being as offensive as possible, or Simon Munnery, who is just weird as hell, can be successful. If anything, audiences here appreciate individuality in a performer and often quite like to be shocked.

What I gather from both is intellect. A lot of the American comics who are offensive are offensive with generically silly stuff like Viagra jokes or dick jokes. UK comics have more of an intellectual edge...these days.
My new favorite UK comic (who is originally from Australia) and now lives in the US is Jim Jeffries. I just worked with him recently and he gave me a great recommendation to the club. The material he does, to you may not seem to harsh, but in front of a US audience this is not taken too well. He was doing about 45 minutes and it took the audience a while to "get" him.
But his US career seems to be doing well and he's filming a pilot for Comedy Central. For folks in the US, look out for him on Comedy Central soon.

ONE RULE: YOU MAY NOT RIDICULE OTHERS. NOT EVERYONE CAN HAVE SUCH GREAT TASTE AS I.
weak sauce, nothing is more subjective than taste in music. if you get offend because some body trashes the music you like, then you are a sally.
I am going to go with the ever lame answer of I listen to jsut about everything (except indie).
METAL
Viking - Lately I have been on a Viking metal kick listening to Tyr, Moonsorrow, and Amon Amarth
Symphonic Black - Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir
PowerMetal - Hammerfall, Kamelot, Dragonforce
??? - Children of Bodom, Therion, All that Remains
My old school (high school) classics - Sepultura, Fear Factory, Life of Agony, Type O Negative (RIP Peter), Pantera, 1990s Marilyn Manson,
Good 1980s metal - Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Manowar
RAP
mostly stuff from the late 80s and 1990s
Three Six Mafia, Too $hort, Lil Keke, Twista, Bone, Tech N9ne, ICP, Master P, Kool Moe Dee, Erik B and Rakim, LL Cool J, Slick Rick.
ELECTRONIC
Mostly Trance - Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, George Acosta (my favorite), Micro,
Hard House - DJ Irene, Fergie
Hardstyle - Tuneboy
Happy Hardcore - its all good
General House, no examples.
Synth pop/ dark synth - VNV Nation (my favorite), Apoptygma Berzerk, Covenant, Assemblege 23, Nuerotic Fish
COUNTRY
Charlie Daniels, David Allan Coe, Hank Williams Jr., Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, Gretchen Wilson, Sara Evans, Toby Keith, Cash, Cline.
so called CLASSICAL
I really prefer the Baroque period to the classical period when listening to really old music, I am fasinated by the harpsicord. Antonio Vivaldi, and J.S. Bach never gets old.
BLUEGRASS and JAM BANDS
Yonder Mountian String Band
Keller Williams
Robert Randolph and the Family Band
WEIRD STUFF
Sigur Ros, Amiina
POP
most older pop from back in the day when I was a kid: Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Queen, Tears for Fears, Madonna.
I do have one guilty pleasure from today and that is Lady Gaga, she is great.
Ever heard of the Minibosses? They do metal covers of old Nintendo themes. Considering that the Super Mario theme and various themes from Mega Man 2 get stuck in my head on a regular basis, these guys are awesome.
Powerglove is better.
I love when people use this disclaimer. This either means you smoke on occasion, still, or smoked tonight listening to Enya (or are about to).
no it just means you still want to, or miss those days. I love pot, but I haven't smoked in many years.
and stop with the judgmental liberal talk.
Toby Keith is a lifelong (labor) Democrat, so I doubt that he is offended by liberals, and probably is one himself.

Saw Jonsi perform his solo album back in May - possibly the most intense gig I have ever attended, which is strange when you think it is much more pop than SR.

I am just glad, you weren't offended by the title Weird stuff. I really have no idea what to call it or were to organize it, but I friggin love it.
I mean yeah its more Pop, but its hard not to be somewhat "pop" when you are that good, and everyone likes your music. as long as it was a great show, then kick ass, I love going to great shows.
I have not seen SR since 2006, and I only know Amiina because they opend for SR, and I had to buy thier CD cause they were so good too.
I have not had the chance to listen to the 2010 Jonsi album yet, is it any good?
