yes. flanders does not represent true christianity, nor does he represent christians. children do not eat cottage cheese and cucumbers nor do they go to bed at 7:30
he is a character created to make fun at what unbelievers do not understand nor get. i have never liked flanders, not because he is so good, but that he doesn't have a clue and his children are just plain obnoxious.

Ned Flanders is intended to be that "annoying" overly Religious person everyone knows but I don't think he was ever portrayed as stupid. I can think of many episodes where he was the only one in town with any sense

Well, he is a creationist, that's pretty stupid.

I actually agree with you, here. Many non xians do not really 'get' xianty. The thing with Flanders is that he is an extreme example of how xians are percieved because that is the impression they give to people.

Ned Flanders, unrealistic Christian
flanders does not represent true christianity, nor does he represent christians.
I think I agree. Ned Flanders is an unrealistic portrayal of "true Christianity" in that he is doing a pretty good job at living the ideals of Christianity.
he ...

But they have the problem that "The Simpsons" also has a long history of a fairly positive display of Christianity. Most notably, the Simpson's neighbor Ned Flanders.
Positive? Ned Flanders' character is designed to be mocked, not modeled after.
I am aiming for a discussion of my view that Ned Flanders is a good representation of what a "good Christian" is.
No, it's satire. If anything, it's condescending.

Ned's not a good Christian?
Ned Flanders' character is designed to be mocked...
A lot of the Simpsons characters are designed to be mocked for their foibles. Ned seems to be mocked for being too nice and too happy. What a jerk.
...it's condescending.
OK, Ned sometimes does cross over into the goofy. He's not alone there, the show is primarily a comidy. You're saying that Ned is not a pretty good Christian? Where is he straying from "good Christian"?
