Could the Is the criticism justifiable? thread be reopend? I received mignat's "results", and I would like to address them in that thread.

Thread's already reopened. You won't be able to address his "results," since he presents none, and neither does he describe any analysis. You can address his conclusions, but he provides no supporting data.
It would be nice if Mignat came away from this experience with some positive feedback that would help him develop a better understanding of how one conducts a proper scientific survey.

Without any assurances that we see things the same way I cannot promote the thread. I suspect you aren't providing them because you don't understand what it is I want, and you can't sign off on something you don't understand.
If you want to work with me to find some common ground then I will reopen the thread proposal.

Has The Supernatural Hypothesis Failed
I was typing this when the thread was closed.
Oni writes:
Fictional characters like unicorns and superheros do not fill a gap in knowledge.
But you told me that you thought that the term "superhero" is meaningless in exactly the same that the term "god" is meaningless.
Oni writes:
However, without the superhero concepts the word would lose it's meaning. Just like god.
But that aside.....
Oni writes:
Words used to fill a gap in knowledge, Strag. I made that clear in a few post. Fictional characters like unicorns and superheros do not fill a gap in knowledge. God, supernatural, ghost, telepathy, poltergeist, those words do.
Even if we somehow proved that no gods exist Thor, Apollo, Zeus etc. would still be gods. The definition of the term "god" would still apply to them and every other fictional god past present or future.
Even if we filled every gap in human knowledge Harry Potter would still be a wizard rather than a poltergeist and Peter Parker would still be a superhero rather than a ghost. Charles Xavier of the X Men would still be a mind reading telepath and Carrie would still be exhibiting telekinetic powers.
If we somehow proved that we were alone in the universe the term "alien" would still have the same conceptual meaning regardless. Why? Because these concepts have conceptual meaning that in and of itself has nothing to do with gaps.
Oni writes:
That is my ONLY criteria. Nothing to do with fiction, at all. Just gap fillers.
You seem to me to be making a false distinction between products of human imagination that have arisen as a result of being posited as answers to certain observed phenomenon and those that have been created purely for entertainment.
I still have no idea why you think this difference in origin makes some fictional concepts any more or less conceptually meaningful than others.
Remove the gaps and the concepts remain as purely fictional entities or phenomenon. No more or less meaningful or meaningless than fictional entities and phenomenon which were never designed to fill any gaps other than our desire to be entertained.

You don't get a second final message
I tacked a footnote to the bottom of Onifre's second final message, which contains a link to your message. That's all you're going to get.

Re: Off Topic Vs On Topic
THREAD Atheist Appreciation of Biblical Wisdom and Inspiration
Message 47
AdminPurple ruled all posts citing Biblical prophecy as off topic, essentially killing the thread and ultimately closing it.
Biblical fulfilled prophecy has been a significant source of Biblical wisdom and inspiration over the centuries.
It was the fulfilled prophecies and other evidenced texts of scripture which inspired me and made me wise as a youth, leading to my conversion from agnosticism to Christianity at an early age. I am suggesting to Straggler, the thread OP author that fulfilled prophecy is indeed one way for anyone, regardless of ideology to become wise and inspired.
Perhaps Admin PD should reconsider her position on this count. Member Purple Dawn consistently undermines the value of Biblical prophecy in the thread debates. Moderators should not use their authority to censor the agenda of on topic discussion in favor of their personal ideology.
It should be understood that prophecy is not all I've cited on this thread. The wisdom of Solomon was cited first by me. The wisdom and inspiration of the Bible is many faceted.
It is my request that this thread be reopened. Granted there was some off topic discussion, but it would be more prudent for moderation to be more tolerant towards the actual topic input. The baby needn't be thrown our with the bathwater.

If you had read the Admin Msg carefully, you would have noticed that the thread was not permanently closed.

Try a better approach. Since prophecies aren't typically wisdom oriented, show or explain the timeless wisdom that you feel is in the prophecy, don't just flop out prophecies again. The thread isn't about proving that the Bible is right or wrong. What was the actual wisdom?

You do realize the Admin Msg wasn't just pointed at you, don't you? I gave credit to what was on topic.
That thread is a unique opportunity and most of the participants are turning it into the same old discussions. Are we so stuck in a rut that we can't share simple wisdom without dragging in our pet positions?
Share the verses that have supplied wisdom through the ages or the verses that have inspired people not to give up in day to day living.
I guess my expectations were too high.
The thread is open, please keep on topic.

Re: Topic Issue
Thanks, AdminPD. I'll try to apply the approach you suggested relative to prophecy or whatever is being addressed.

Could the thread Did the Biblical Exodus ever happen? be reopened
I would like to be able to at least reply to the latest example of Buz's totally false assertions if possible.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!
