Re: DNA
barbara,
Do understand what a "codon" is?
What mRNA, tRNA are?
What a ribosome does?
Where Amino Acids are used?
What gene switches are?
What a Hox gene does?
Explaining what DNA is and does is quite complex. Without these concepts some simple comparison to recipe books or blueprints is useless.

Re: DNA
The answer I am looking for can only come from someone that has years of experience studying genetics that is able to explain it in simple terms.
Regardless. Without a familiarity in these other concepts any "simple" explanation will not give you the understanding you seek. And any more accurate explanation will only confuse you more.
